Florida and Cuba DUers - time to get ready - Invest 93L

http://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMasters/show.html

In the Tropical Weather Outlook NHC has tagged a tropical wave in the NW Caribbean Sea as Invest93L and believes that it has a 30-50% chance of developing into a tropical cyclone in the next 48 hours. As of now (11 PM PDT, June 26), the Hurricane Hunters are scheduled to investigate this area on June 28. The track models have Invest93L moving through the Yucatan Straits into the Gulf of Mexico. After that, most of the models take the cyclone north and east making landfall along a wide swath of Florida's Gulf Coast on Wednesday of next week. The intensity models predict that at landfall, the system will be a weak Category 1 hurricane or strong tropical storm.

3. Why do they use such pretty names for hurricanes?
If my roof is coming off, I want it to be done by a Gertrude or something that sounds tough, not Ana (or Katrina).

I hate hurricane season.

4. Names mean nothing to me
My worry is the strength of the storm and where its heading.

Like you I hate hurricane season.

11. Yeah, I was being a little silly.
And I'm sure all the Gertrude's in the world are now owed an apology.

9. Hey if it brings in some rain and drops the temps below 100 F, bring it on!
We have not had any measurable amount of rain in several weeks and the temps have been around 100 F for two weeks with no rain at all. The grass and the plants are getting stressed and we've been watering everything we can, but it is hard to keep up.

Of course if this thing develops up and dumps over two feet of rain in two days like TS Fay did last fall, I will be kicking myself big time.

15. it's a bit early for the big one, but
water temps near Clearwater are in the 90s and it's been going to 93 degrees on land. It's way to early for those types of temps, but what do I know, I've only lived here 30 years or so. I'm sure someone else has other ideas.

16. The problem is that it's surviving and heading into the Gulf
The next question is direction and it's too early to figure that out.
Predictions say Cat 1 but again this is a few days away from land.
All of us need to get ready - the season begins.
