Can anything be done about the Fox appointment?
I am really burned up about this. Sam Fox gave $50,000 to the "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth", helped to destroy a man's presidential aspirations, helped to screw things up in our country, got called on it, and now he is ambassador to Belgium? I repeat, this angers me. I want to know how to overturn this. Can the Democrats in the Senate do anything about it? If so, they need to do whatever is in their power to undo it. This guy Fox doesn't deserve to represent America in any way, shape, or form. He is a no good dirty piece of dog crap.

Dodd Asks Congress To Investigate Fox Appointment
5:44 PM EDT, April 5, 2007
By DAVID LIGHTMAN, Washington Bureau Chief

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Christopher J. Dodd and two other Democratic colleagues Thursday formally asked Congress' investigative arm to determine the legality of President Bush's appointment of Republican stalwart Sam Fox as ambassador to Belgium.

"We view the appointment of Mr. Fox as a clear abuse of the president's recess appointment power," said Dodd, D-Conn., and Sens. John F. Kerry, D-Mass., and Robert P. Casey Jr., D-Penn.

4. Not to mention
that the doofus doesn't speak Dutch, French, or German... Has no experience.

I had contacted both my Senators awhile back asking for them to oppose his nomination. And then Bush pulls this crap.

3 Senators did write a letter to inquire about a few issues. Apparently recess appointees are not allowed to be paid a salary. However, an Ambassadorship by law is a paid position. So there is some hope there. I won't hold me breath though. I'm furious that Congress recessed. They had to know Bush will be pulling stuff like this for his remaining time in office. They cannot let their guard down.

6. Can't the country of Belgium refuse to accept Fox as ambassador
based on their assessment of being unqualified?

7. All he will be is an ambassador, how about the other two recess appointments
A reg opponent in charge of regs at the OMB and a person who wants to privatize SS being appointed second in charge of SS. Imagine how much damage is going to be done with these two guys.

8. There is Title 5 USC 5503
TITLE 5 > PART III > Subpart D > CHAPTER 55 > SUBCHAPTER I > § 5503

§ 5503. Recess appointments

(a) Payment for services may not be made from the Treasury of the United States to an individual appointed during a recess of the Senate to fill a vacancy in an existing office, if the vacancy existed while the Senate was in session and was by law required to be filled by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, until the appointee has been confirmed by the Senate. This subsection does not apply—

(1) if the vacancy arose within 30 days before the end of the session of the Senate;

(2) if, at the end of the session, a nomination for the office, other than the nomination of an individual appointed during the preceding recess of the Senate, was pending before the Senate for its advice and consent; or

(3) if a nomination for the office was rejected by the Senate within 30 days before the end of the session and an individual other than the one whose nomination was rejected thereafter receives a recess appointment.

(b) A nomination to fill a vacancy referred to by paragraph (1), (2), or (3) of subsection (a) of this section shall be submitted to the Senate not later than 40 days after the beginning of the next session of the Senate.

9. Legally, there is not much that can be done; remember though this
Ambassadorship to Belgium is a "Prized Plum", there is nothing to do, and it is more a position of "status" than anything else. Everyone now knows this was a dud of an appointment, Fox is a flunky for the administration, and he would never be considered seriously as anything but a hack in Europe.

Just add this up to the other screw-ups this admin has done. One thing is for sure...there will be a lot of housecleaning for the next administration, all of these guys automatically become null and void if they were recess appt's at the end of the administration that put them there.
