Carol Korreck: A Soldier's Mother Asks: "What the $#@*?"

I am in a stupor.

Can people really be so ignorant and manipulated?

I am standing on a busy intersection holding a sign that proclaims I am a "military family who speaks out." There is an air show going on at the air force base down the street.

Someone has spent a vast amount of time and money convincing the people heading to the air show that they are flag-waving, soldier-supporting patriotic Americans. I have dedicated my weekend to holding a sign reminding these folks that there is an occupation going on.

They are at the air force base playing "virtual reality games" that let them experience what it would be like to be a soldier fighting insurgents on a street in Iraq. How nice that the army is spending quality time and $$ finding ways to entice gullible young men and women into signing on the dotted line to go be a part of the action portrayed on their video arcade/theme park ride.

If they would just bring our soldiers home now, recruitment to fill empty, bloodied combat boots wouldn't be such an issue.
