Obamacare – shooting down RW propaganda.
** Please add your own. **

Propaganda - Government does not belong involved in medical care. We don’t want the government making my medical care decisions.

Answer – Government is already involved in your medical care decisions.
Medicare standards define what every other insurer covers.
Government regulates drugs, their dosages and uses.
Government regulates hospitals, clinics and training facilities for medical workers.
Government sets the standards for medical practitioner education
Government regulates what medical equipment can be used and how it is maintained.
Government has passed thousands of laws regulating your insurance carrier.

Propaganda - Socialized Medicine doesn’t work – look at this big list of problems

Answer – Our system isn’t perfect either. But you measure a healthcare system by people’s health.
They live longer - https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/rankorder/2102rank.html
Have lower infant mortality rate - https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/rankorder/2091rank.html

Propaganda – Socialized Medicine is too expensive – we can’t afford it.

Answer - If you moved to Canada you’d live longer, be healthier and have $2300 a year more per person in your own pocket. If you lived in the UK you’d have $2600 more per person in your pocket and still be healthier and live longer than you do now. What’s so American about spending more to get less? http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/hea_spe_per_per-health-spending-per-person

Propaganda - Well I’m against socialism this isn’t the USSR !! Why can’t people look out for themselves?

Answer – That ship sailed before you were born. Nearly every road in the US was built thanks to socialism. Your fire and police dept is socialism. The safety of everything you eat and drink is socialism. The safety of every product you use is socialism. Most of America’s education is socialism. Even a goodly portion of your access to medical care is already socialism. (see the first propaganda item) This society decided a very long time ago that we are better off creating a safety net for those in need through government at shared expense to those who have. It’s too late to say you don’t want socialism.

1. "Government bureaucrats between you and your Doctor". .
Beats insurance company bureaucrats in that position... THEY get to KEEP what they don't allow for your care!

11. Actually doctors DEPEND on bureaucrats to limit the choices
it's the bureaucrats that realized running adults through a yearly physical was overall ineffective tool to prevent disease. Bureaucrats have the time to sit around and crunch the numbers. They are medical care's version of "JD Powers" or "Consumer Reports". They tell us what treatments worked the best for the best price. They tell us it's worth trying this cheaper thing on most people - or it's not. In addition, the bureaucrats have the time to sit around and figure out if treatments really are safe, and do they deliver as promised.

If the RWers really want bureaucrats out of the way then they are asking to destroy the system of government licensing of doctors, nurses, hospitals and equipment. They apparently want to destroy the FDA so no one is watching to make sure big Pharma isn't putting melamine in their aspirin.......

No, RWers don't actually want bureaucrats out of the way. Why they parrot the talking heads about it is a real mystery.

6. This is very good - should be sent to all in Congress
I'm encouraged that this came from the White House, and it might be even more encouraging if those who actually vote on it would read the facts.

7. I consider libraries a version of socialism ...
everybody can have equal access to nearly every book, and can take it out without having to purchase it.

Now, a "capitalist" shouldn't be allowed to use such a library ... they should have to go to a store and buy it at retail price. Even if it's just to look up a word in a dictionary.

8. WE are the change WE voted for, speak up.
We must have health care reform this year. After seeing what is deemed, defended and supported as quality health care in TN & VA, I support PUBLIC OPTION. http://www.wisecountyissues.com/?p=62
