Conservative Christianity and Adultery -- Trying to Explain Sanford and Ensign
"It's all about reconciliation. They do not care if their members fail. I would argue that human vulnerability is a cornerstone of their power."

"That's where the yes comes in. At the most obvious level, the prayer cell can act as a sort of 'get out of jail free' card. 'Accountability' is a strange term with which to describe what happens in elite prayer cells of politicians, where men tell one another that confessing to the cell is enough. But there's a much deeper problem, and that's the Core's rejection of morality altogether -- its belief that morality is a prideful human construct. This derives from a bastardized Calvinism, a deep distortion of Calvin's idea of an elect. The best way to understand it is to look at how the Family views the King David story -- David is forgiven everything....

1. I went to fundie schools as a child and those kids were mean through and through.
They would act like bullies and brats during the week, and because they sat in church every Sunday apparently they thought they could do whatever they wanted the rest of the time.

6. Those fundy kids were unwitting
modern-day Anabaptists.

Calvin had the Anacptists brutally suppressed as a heresy to true Calvinism.

Anabaptists held that, because God had already pre-ordained who was the Elect, they were free to do as they pleased on earth.

N.B. For fans of "Catch 22," Yossarian is an Anabaptist.

9. I think so.
To this day, I duck when I see someone with symbols of Christianity all over their house. And it's been borne out many times in my experience: The louder the Christian, the meaner the person.

4. They are members of the "elect" with "stay out of hell free" tickets!
Pre-determinist fundies believe that leading a good life is not essential to "being saved", for members of "the elect", who will be automatically taken to heaven during the "Rapture". Ken Lay has one of those tickets too!

all that crap. I love the thought of it happening and watching all those fundamentalcases saying, "WTF?" when they were left behind. But I can't, so I just have to remember that they'll rot in their graves with the rest of us.

7. The Fundies have been noticeably absent. It could be they are feeling
terribly embarased. They believe these guys who run as protectors
of family values. Sometimes when you feel embarased by being
duped--you just kinda stay low.

Also, Fundies are very selective. Who knows maybe they think
it is ok for Republicans but not for Democrats.

10. Gluttony and remorse
It's the two types of fuels for most fundies.
