Honduras Coup: According to the website School of The Americas Watch the general
Edited on Mon Jun-29-09 09:27 AM by lunatica
who led the coup is a graduate of the US School that teachers torture methods. I leave it to you to believe whether this site is legitimate or not. I find it believable having lived in Mexico and Colombia for many years. What we haven't heard from our typically one sided and abysmally lazy media is how the people are reacting in the streets. This site addresses that.

http://www.soaw.org/

A military coup has taken place in Honduras on Sunday, June 28, led by School of the Americas (SOA) graduate Romeo Vasquez. Members of the Honduran military surrounded the presidential palace and forced the democratically elected president, Manuel Zelaya, into custody. He was immediately flown to Costa Rica.

The Honduran state television was taken off the air. The electricity supply to the capital Tegucigalpa, as well telephone and cellphone lines were cut. The people of Honduras are going into the streets. Labor unions are planning for a general strike. From Costa Rica, President Zelaya has called for a non-violent response from the people of Honduras, and for international solidarity for the Honduran democracy.

1. K&R - Once again underscores the need to indict Bush-Cheney and the failure of Obama to do this
This is blowback from the Fourth Reich BFEE.

Bush and Cheney and Rummy were able to develop massive private intel and military apparatuses globally.

They are going to create a world of trouble for Obama whether it is in Honduras or Iran or Iraq or Pakistan.

They could still be funding the Taliban and Al Qaeda through ISI or other backchannels.

The Russians and Chinese governments have nuke contracts with Bush/Cheney corporate fascist entities so they can manipulate North Korea and Iran whenever they want.

Obama's failure to dismantle the Fourth reich and prosecute Bush-Cheney and to have truth commissions to expose these cancers on the world will make it impossible for him to deliver on his promise of change in much of a meaningful way and will practically annihilate real hope.

I hope Obama realizes this and has a plan.

I suspect he does, but I am not convinced yet.

2. Can you provide links?
Edited on Mon Jun-29-09 09:30 AM by lunatica
It's a way that DUers can verify and see for themselves and gives you credibility or, on the other hand, gives DUers a chance to set the record straight if the websites aren't legitimate sources of real news.

3. Which parts?

Blackwater etc is well known. Dyncorp, Carlyle, Halliburton, etc all have military/intel ops run by the Bush Cheney elites.

Halliburton is a huge nuke industry through Kellogg Brown and root

Most of the nuke companies doing business with China and Russia are through backdoor channels and corporations which, give the secrecy in those governments, is difficult to expose.

But that is PRECISELY WHY we need the truth commissions.

You can google any of these for more info - but I would suggest that anyone who understands Halliburton and the private military contractors in Iraq owned by Bush-Cheney allies will get these connections.

The nuke issues are a little trickier to document, but because that industry is the most powerful in the world (because it produces weapons grade material) its control by a handful of powerful entities control the fuel and the engineering.

Bush I was ambassador to China and former head of the republican party and later headed the cia when we opened up China to US trade, making financing and investment in their nuke industries possible.

Anthony Sutton wrote extensively about the wall street financing of Soviet and Russian energy industries.

So there is the evidence in a nutshell. If you want me to provide more detailed links all i would do is google these terms and show them.

But this research is my field of study but most of this is public info and a little research will give you the details.

4. Thanks for the explanations
Sorry it took me so long to answer. I was at work and this is the first chance I've had to come on DU.

Really, anyone who thinks the US is not involved is uninformed. There's much material to document any allegation of US involvement.

6. Of course they are legitimate, and have been for DECADES.
This general who has conspicuous connection to the School of the Americas at Ft. Benning, Georgia was discussed yesterday in several threads already.

Here's information which may help:

http://www.elheraldo.hn.nyud.net:8090/var/elheraldo_site/storage/images/ediciones/2009/05/03/multimedia/romeo-vasquez-velasquez-dice-que-no-puede-hablar-de-politica.-estamos-con-la-democracia-romeo-vasquez-velasquez/1092954-1-esl-HN/Romeo-Vasquez-Velasquez-dice-que-no-puede-hablar-de-politica.-Estamos-con-la-democracia-Romeo-Vasquez-Velasquez_noticia_full.jpg

Key leaders of Honduras military coup trained in U.S.

At least two leaders of the coup launched in Honduras on June 28 were apparently trained at a controversial Department of Defense school based at Fort Benning, Georgia infamous for producing graduates linked to torture, death squads and other human rights abuses.

Leftist President Manuel Zelaya was kidnapped and transported to Costa Rica on Sunday morning after a growing controversy over a vote concerning term limits. Over the last week, Zelaya clashed with and eventually dismissed General Romeo Vasquez -- who is now reportedly in charge of the armed forces that abducted the Honduran president.

According to the watchdog group School of Americas Watch, Gen. Vasquez trained at the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation at least twice -- in 1976 and 1984 -- when it was still called School of Americas.

The Georgia-based U.S. military school is infamous for training over 60,000 Latin American soldiers, including infamous dictators, "death squad" leaders and others charged with torture and other human rights abuses. SOA Watch's annual protest to shut down the Fort Benning training site draws thousands.

According to SOA Watch, the U.S. Army school has a particularly checkered record in Honduras, with over 50 graduates who have been intimately involved in human rights abuses. In 1975, SOA Graduate General Juan Melgar Castro became the military dictator of Honduras. From 1980-1982 the dictatorial Honduran regime was headed by yet another SOA graduate, Policarpo Paz Garcia, who intensified repression and murder by Battalion 3-16, one of the most feared death squads in all of Latin America (founded by Honduran SOA graduates with the help of Argentine SOA graduates).

7. I'm sorry if I'm repeating myself but this morning, a human rights activist
Amy interviewed said that he was concerned about human rights abuses because some of the coup plotters were involved in torture in the 80s. He didn't name any names though.
