2. I was hoping it was LA and someone had the ambulance
from the coroners office.

Just trying to tie it to Michael Jackson, how do they justify covering police chase when Michael Jackson is dead?

:sarcasm:

5. Even been IN a police chase?
Edited on Mon Jun-29-09 02:14 PM by TrogL
I've worked as a volunteer police officer and been in a police vehicle during a chase. One of the most terrifying experiences in my life not because I didn't trust the superb driving of the police officer, but because of the fucking idiots who wouldn't pull over, tried to cross in front of us or just stood in the middle of the street doing "deer in headlights".

Hence, I get upset with all this coverage of police chases. I don't understand the mentality of watching the potential for police officers and duller than a sack of hammers innocent bystanders getting killed.

26. Yes, twice. On both sides of a chase
Edited on Mon Jun-29-09 02:41 PM by DJ13
First time on a ride along with the Lakewood Ca. Sheriff's department, second as a passenger when a former friend hit a parked car and then decided to run from the police.

8. We haven't had a good car chase here in LA in a while. Good =
on during prime time, so we don't have to watch the usual dreck, and lots of wild driving and near-misses, complete with a crash at the end. Oh, and over by 11 PM so I can get to bed.

I know. I'm bad.

29. I saw a good pursuit yesterday. Not on TV, though.
Last night, I was waiting at a crosswalk, when I finally got the go ahead, I checked both ways as I always do, regardless of the right of way from the signal. And for this exact reason. I saw two squads coming down the street chasing a vehicle. It was night, I had headphones on, I could have been creamed if I had just trusted the signal alone and crossed. I never understand why people assume just because they have the right of way that they're still not gonna get creamed by oncoming vehicles.

Anyway, no sooner than they had turned the corner with the two LAPD cruisers right behind, six or seven other units could be seen headed from the Van Nuys LAPD station toward that intersection. And I could see the air support coming in fast from the west valley. I love a good pursuit. It ended just down the street, blocked in an alley. That's the second one I've seen in person from that intersection.

(Reseda and Burbank, Tarzana). I'm right by the 101, so we get the extra bonus from that.

33. This was at Hazeltine and Burbank. and I can't sleep without the buzzing of choppers anymore.
It gets too silent. :)

Chopper left quickly when the guy was cuffed, probably had to get back to hovering over your block.

I like a good car chase.

27. Helicopter - agree. That's why if I'm ever in a car chase...
I'm going to going to call a relative to have them plant me a car in the parking garage of a mall. Then I'll drive in there, ditch the original car and maybe buy a few minutes before they figure it out and I'm off to plan B.

Hey, it's good to have plans, just in case.

31. A few years ago something close happened in LA
The subject was on a motorcycle, street bike kind. The LAPD units had no chance of catching him. LAPD could only keep an eye on him from the air. He ended up ditching the air units in the Glendale galleria and but I think they got the guy cause someone saw him ditch his riding jacket, and thinking that was suspicious, told security, who had had no problems pointing out this character to police when they arrived and said, "hey, you haven't happened to have seen a motorcyclist we've been looking for."
But yours isn't a bad plan, its all in the execution. No one in the mall knew there was a hot pursuit going on outside, if that guy had discretely ditched his jacket, like in a restroom, he'd have improved his chances of getting away. But he did it inside the mall, in a common area. Anyway, good luck to you!

23. The cops were making zero effort to open the car or to free the person. They were just standing
back. The first cop looked in the window and backed off fast. Can't be pretty.

eventually the car runs out of gas.

Someone trying to outrun the cops and it's national news.

Viewer's faults for paying attention I supposed. I just wish journalistic standards existed.
