Can somebody explain the conservative fixation of ACORN to me?
For some reason, conservatives like to bring up ACORN or insist that the organization and Obama harbor Ayersian views.

I don't get it.

3. They don't want to believe that Obama won the election because the people actually supported him.
Fixating on ACORN allows them to do that.

and all the corruption republicans claim goes with it.

that's why ACORN should be defended and the facts presented at every turn.

but don't expect democratic media talking heads to do that.

9. Voter suppression is the ONLY hope that the Republican Party has to win elections.
ANY effort to register voters is certain death for them.

11. Exactly. And their best efforts at suppression are mainly against black voters,
then students and deployed military. They are SCUM.

Edited on Mon Jun-29-09 05:15 PM by noamnety
was when ACORN was doing voter registration drives, and republicans (at least around the Detroit area) were talking about how the key to their winning elections was voter suppression. (particularly suppression of the black vote)

13. They use ACORN to divert attention from their own
election fraud and election stealing dirty tricks. That's a very common tactic: accuse others of what you are doing yourself.

They know that their own thefts are too complicated and widespread to keep peoples' attention. The public likes their stories short and sweet. If they can demonize one person, like Soros, or blame one group, like ACORN, many simple-minded folk will believe it.

14. It's simple: ACORN registers the unregistered as voters.
This threatens the GOP.

Of course, the GOP's own antics threaten them far more, but they don't see that.

17. Republicans only can either steal elections, or hope for a low voter turnout.
ACORN registers voters that Repugs feel will only vote Democratic.

ACORN must be evil.

Maybe I was hasty with the "period" because, most of "them voters" are not the same color as "first class voters"!

24. They NEED enemies. And they're rapidly running out of REAL enemies.
Saddam is dead, Khadaffi is now an ally (sort of) and the Soviet Union is gone.

All they have is a shadowy Osama bin Laden who doesn't play fair by showing up at the head of great armies.

So they turn inward. And finding no threats there either, they invent some.

Ergo ACORN. Oh, and Ayers and George Soros.
