2. Are all the dems on board and are we left only one vote away?
Edited on Tue Jun-30-09 03:09 PM by stray cat
if any of that were true I guess the answer would be yes - but I don't think any of that is true.

11. Actually, not Specter.
He's stated already he's for the public option.

5. Franken's seating, unfortunately guarantees nothing
Of course, it's one more vote for it, which is helpful, but by no means does his seating make it certain.

The problem is that its the Democrats blocking it, not the powerless whining party

9. Bill Nelson or Joe Lieberman or any one of them could prevent a filibuster proof majority.
They would simply have to switch their votes against whatever it is the Democrats are trying to pass at a particular time.

Then, the Republicans would be free to filibuster the bill to death.

19. Let them filibuster. It's been done before and maybe it's time to call them
on it and let them do it.

He can't make them go away.

12. Nah. Still a battle in Senate.
Not sure which committees he's going to get a seat on, though. He'd be a good voice if there's an opening on Health.

17. If that's the case, they probably will banish him to some committee on
freedom for widgets, not where he might do some good.

13. Pawlenty has NOT certified the election (and my yet decline to do so).
Franken has not been seated yet.

People are getting WAY ahead of themsleves here.

15. If Pawlenty disregards Coleman's concession...
...it's political suicide. No Presidential run in 2012.

In other words...

16. Also, it would set a very bad precedent for future elections. Both the
President and Congress need to lean on him to do it.

14. The corporate whore, DLC, Blue Dogs are not on board, however,
we have enough votes in the House and we may need only fifty in the Senate if Reid makes the rule or that's how I understand it. Let's hope this is true. In this case, why settle for public option if we can get HR 676 or an improved Medicare extended to every one?

18. All it does is make their "we dont have votes" excuse weaker and more transparent.
More and more people not accepting that excuse and demanding: "Well get off your ass and GET the votes then!!!"

21. Wrong
Not all Democratic Senators support a public option.

And there is much disagreement among those Senators who do support a public option as to exactly what form this public option would take.
