6. HSUS is responsible for CA Prop 2.
They're working on it, piece by piece.

4. May they all find happy homes, warm beds...
But I'm afraid more and more puppies will be leading a dog's life in this recession. I've got three dogs (two rescued), and I'm feeling the pinch when I plunk down $40 for a couple of weeks worth of prescription or geriatric food.

I saw an Australian Cattle Dog wandering through my neighborhood this morning without a collar. Perhaps he was just "lost" but my first thought was that someone abandoned him where they hoped he might find a home.

8. Yes, sadly, more and more dogs are being abandoned
or surrendered to resuce groups or shelters due to the recession. I try to look for the silver lining - hoping that the recession will also cause a downturn in purchases of puppy mill dogs and thereby shut down some of these horrible places.

9. Second tears today shed for pups. First ones were a little earlier this morning from
a Today Show segment. 4 dogs from a NYC shelter were given doggie makeovers to make them more adoptable.

The people who run puppy mills should be locked in cramped cages for life.
