Bush has spent more than a year on vacation.
Edited on Sat Apr-07-07 04:39 PM by mcscajun
NYT: On the Ranch, Bush Has a Perfect Escape

-snip-

After morning security briefings, he spends hours riding his bike, chopping cedar, clearing brush and chatting with family -- all in privacy.

The visits add up.

Bush has spent part or all of 409 days of his presidency on the 1,600-acre ranch, according to CBS White House correspondent Mark Knoller, who keeps meticulous records of Bush's travel.

5. Hey, we've got to run this country like a business...
Enron?, Ford?, Delta?, Vonage? You can go ahead and pick the overpaid, investment wrecking model the asshole absent from the Whitehouse represents.

16. On the other hand...
Think about who he's leaving in charge.

It must be Neocon par-tay time with Cheney and friends at the WH while the Chimp-in-Chief is hacking away at twigs.

I hear Dick makes a beeline for that big leather chair as soon as Marine One clears the White House lawn.

10. Don't you think it's more than a little strange that we never see picts of the
actual house? At least Reagan gave us that.

We just get shots of him in front of shacks and clearing brush.

I wantta see what the palatial mansion looks like. While the people suffer.

15. Found it. It is 4000 sf.
Bush and his wife had David Heymann, then an associate professor of architecture at the University of Texas at Austin, designed a 4,000 ft² (372 m²) honey-colored native limestone single-level home on the site. In addition there is an open 10 foot (3 m) wide limestone porch that encircles the house.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prairie_Chapel_Ranch

I was surprised by this:

The passive-solar house is positioned to absorb winter sunlight, warming the interior walkways and walls of the residence. Geothermal heat pumps circulate water through pipes buried 300 feet (100 m) deep in the ground. A 25,000 US gallon (151 m³) underground cistern collects rainwater gathered from roof urns; wastewater from sinks, toilets, and showers cascades into underground purifying tanks and is also funneled into the cistern. The water from the cistern is then used to irrigate the landscaping around the four-bedroom home.

26. Googling for "prairie chapel ranch" brings up this:

I remember seeing pics during the 2000 election, but don't remember specifics - it didn't look like anything to write home about (at least from the pics I saw).

19. Exactly. There are plenty of "under-employed" people who can't
afford vacations, and many more working poor who've NEVER had one.

But he gets 1/8 of his time off.
