Greenpeace Hangs Giant Global Warming Banner on Mt. Rushmore(PIC)
Source: The Raw Story

Members of the environmental group Greenpeace draped an enormous banner next to the carved stone faces of Mount Rushmore today, calling for more aggressive action to fight climate change.

The banner appeared to show President Obama’s face and the words “America Honors Leaders, Not Politicians. Stop Global Warming.” It was unfurled next to the image of Abraham Lincoln, on the far right side of the South Dakota landmark, starting about 12:30 p.m. EST.

10. Green Peace stales 4 power plants in Italy in G-8 protest.
The Guardian:

"Greenpeace activists occuped four coal-fired power stations in Italy yesterday, as G8 leaders met in L'Aquila to discuss issues including action on climate change. More than 100 Greenpeace activists from 18 countries took part in the protests to draw attention to the group's campaign for action by world leaders on cutting greenhouse gas emissions."

I'm sure our leaders will immediately get their shit together. Very impressive, though.

12. Channel 14 interviewed two families that had driven hours and were complaining pictures ruined.
They said they had driven hours on vacation and wanted pictures of the kids on the viewing area with rushmore in the background and that the shots were ruined.

Park officials said they were still investigating whether the iconic monument -- a restricted area which is closely monitored -- suffered damage.

"Early this morning visitors saw these individuals on the mountain," said Amy Bracewell, a spokeswoman for the National Park Service.

"They got up next to Abraham Lincoln and unfurled the large banner," she told AFP.

"As soon as our people were mobilized we took down the banner and apprehended them and got them safely down the mountain."
