Key Reason Palin Gave For Quitting May Be False
One of the chief reasons Sarah Palin has given for resigning as Governor of Alaska is that her state’s taxpayers are being forced to spend money defending her government against ethics complaints that would otherwise fund teachers, cops, and road repair.

But in response to our questions, a spokesperson for the Alaska governor’s office just gave us new information that casts serious doubt on this assertion. The revelation makes the resignation episode even stranger, and raises fresh questions about the real reasons for her abrupt departure.

...

David Murrow, a spokesperson for the Governor, said in an interview that much of this money was budgeted to the lawyers in advance and would have gone to them anyway, even if state lawyers hadn’t been defending against these ethics complaints.

In response to our questions, the Governor’s office provided us with a detailed breakdown of the millions Palin has claimed has gone to defending against ethics complaints. It does list roughly $1.9 million in expenditures.

But Murrow, the spokesperson, acknowledged to our reporter, Amanda Erickson, that this total was arrived at by adding up attorney hours spent on fending off complaints — based on the fixed salaries of lawyers in the governor’s office and the Department of Law. The money would have gone to the lawyers no matter what they were doing. The complaints are “just distracting them from other duties,” Murrow said.

3. Those glasses have the weakest 'prescription' I've ever seen. No refraction. None.

14. That's because they aren't prescription.
She thinks wearing glasses makes her look more serious. She doesn't need glasses.

15. Special lenses with the proper prescription are available.
That's why people who wear glasses on television don't have that issue. Soon to be Ex-Gov Palin probably wears glasses instead of contact lenses for the 'intelligence' perception. However, she strikes me as the type to be vain enough to spend more for the special lenses since she expects to be photographed often.

And, even if she didn't have them before the VP run, someone from the McCain campaign would most likely have suggested it.

However, I don't know that for certain. It's possible there is nothing but window pane in her frames.

6. No freakin' kidding.
There's no 'may' about it - Palin's proved she's a pathological liar. 99% of the time, with anything that comes out of her mouth, you can bet the opposite's true. You cannot take anything at face value with this woman.

7. Here's more proof that her explanation was BS:
I doubt that Palin even knows the law, or would care much if she did.

"...In her exit speech, Palin said Commissioner Craig Campbell of the Department of Military and Veteran’s Affairs would “assume his role as lieutenant governor.” One small problem with that. It isn’t actually his role yet. It would appear that the legislature needs to confirm the pick. And one small problem with that. The legislature is not in session.

What all this means is that there will need to be a special session of the legislature to confirm Campbell. If there’s one possible way that Palin can become even less popular with legislators than she already is, it’s by yanking them out of their hip waders, and recreational vehicles, and the gorgeous Alaskan summer sun, and hauling them back into the capitol for a bunch of meetings. <snip>

Here’s the relevant statute:

Sec. 44.19.040. Appointment of successor to lieutenant governor.

After taking an initial term of office, the governor shall appoint, from among the officers who head the principal departments of the state government or otherwise, a person to succeed to the office of lieutenant governor if the office of lieutenant governor becomes vacant. The appointment is subject to confirmation by a majority of the members of the legislature meeting in joint session. The person designated and confirmed is next in line for succession to the office of lieutenant governor, subject to the pleasure of the governor. If the person designated and confirmed is removed from or vacates the appointment, the governor shall appoint a successor subject to confirmation in the same manner as the person initially appointed.

What else comes with a special session, besides cranky legislators, and extra business? A big fat price tag is what. Based on previous estimates, we could expect the costs to run well into six figures. Wasn’t one of the reasons Palin decided to drop the ball and walk off the court “pass the ball” and resign as governor because her presence was supposedly costing the state money? Just askin’."

13. A while ago, she said that her old high school buddy
(and "rumored" lover) Joe Schmidt, Commissioner of Corrections, would be next in line after Sean Parnell, and the legislature approved that. Schmidt has evidently recently stated that he doesn't want to be lieutenant governor, so Sarah came up with Craig Campbell, her military affairs person.

I personally don't see how she can name ANYONE to be lieutenant governor when she won't be governor after the 26th. That should be up to Parnell, I would think. But in any event, the legislature does have to approve whoever is picked since Schmidt doesn't want the job.

16. Why would you think that any claim by Palin wasn't false?
And since when is veracity thought to be a criterion when a Republican resigns -- or takes any other action?

;-)
