T. Boone Pickens...I just have to laugh!

At least for right now.

The godfather of greenmail, the quintessential corporate raider, the man who loved to buy your company, sell off the parts, throw thousands of people out of work at a time, and THEN raid your pension program......

Is now stuck with roughly two BILLION dollars worth of windmills, warehoused and sitting on flatbed trailers, all because the poor little texan who thought he could corner the natural gas market, so that he would reap untold billions, to finance the building of wind turbine transmission lines, didn't figure the natural gas market correctly.

What's a poor billionaire to do?

What goes around comes around.

21. Yeah, I'd like to think this is going to bite him in the ass but
more likely he'll get bailed out by us the taxpayer somehow.

And we'll get it in the ass.

4. Here's a thought
Why doesn't he built the windfarm anyway and sell memberships or something?

You know, build it and they will come. Have a vision and enact it. Expect returns to take longer than six months.

13. Can't build them
the place where he wanted to build them is a long way from the grid. He needs to run power lines for a few hundred miles.

Needs the right of way and permits to put up the lines. Not to mention the money.

16. You're right............
but I was thinking long-term. He's got all the parts, so he has to build them eventually.

6. It's not because he didn't figure the natural gas market properly...
it's because he didn't plan on transmission lines properly. It will be 2011 before any rights to transmission are granted and construction of transmission lines can be started. He bought the windmills a little too hastily.

8. I heard him talking about that on NPR
He said he was still going forward but nothing would manifest as a windmill farm until 2011 or 2013. He also said he couldn't get funding or the converters made until 2011/2013. I thought he was funding this. I guess he still needs more money.

Ain't it great?

Not only that, he's likely to get screwed out of his ultimate plan to suck the Ogalalla Aquifer dry. Yay!

The Panhandle of Texas has been fighting him for years over this. The Canadian River Municipal Water Authority is currently in negotiations to buy his water rights. It's been a while but as I recall, Boone only had 8 acres of land.

The thing is, even with water rights, Boone needed the power of eminent domain to pump the Ogallala out from under us. The wind farm, in conjunction with those power lines were part of his plan to suck us dry.

We voted his crony Mayor out of office 20 years ago and he, in turn, moved Mesa Petroleum to Dallas and waged a water war on us.

He's a snake, a thief and his word isn't worth a pile of cow shit.

Getting the rubes to believe he's sincere and plain-spoken. Many have fallen for it and until he kicks the bucket, he'll lure other poor suckers in.

Can you just imagine him standing there, looking at his windmills? Tilting at his windmills?

I just hope the Democratic Senators who courted him - even at the convention and at a recent global warning forum think before they ally themselves with him.

I was not happy to see my Senator behind this - http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=385&topic_id=334341&mesg_id=334341 Environmental and business groups did a fantastic job defeating a referendum in CA that would have helped him on this. http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/sunday/commentary/la-oe-rubenstein29-2008jul29,0,2346782.story

Not to mention he still owes Kerry and his crew $1 million that they wanted to give to vet organizations. Hopefully this setback keeps him from having enough money to create more trouble.

17. I remember well what Pickens did to Cities Service back in the early '80s.
It wasn't pretty. Pickens no doubt deserves what he gets if it's bad.

23. There was a very interesting article about Pickens here
talking about his REAL goal was obtaining the water right-of-ways in Texas which coincidentally, just happen to run right underneath the windmills he is procuring in the western part of the state.
