Poll question: What is your un-Rec to Rec ratio for the last couple of days (optionally post more info)?
Mine is about 10 un-Recs for every Rec.

1. If it weren't for the i-hate-unrec threads, it would be about even.

2. I've only recommended one...
MadFloridians post about "The Family." I only recommend when I really like something, and I won't unrecommend at all. If something's bad enough I'll alert, but otherwise I think people should have their voice.

3. I HATE unrec, but I am unrecommending bullshit because I'm giving what I got.
Karma.

5. The unrec feature can never work well!
Because I'll do everything in my power to make damn sure it doesn't.

6. I've Unrecommended more than I've recommended.
I believe there are far too many threads that exist only to feed the thread starter's ego. There are some posters who will start a thread on a topic that already has 10-20 such threads active on the board. I've watched it happen over and over. It's an ego thing, and nothing more.

We have thread starters who simply do not do a good job of presenting a topic. They write poorly, or too pejoratively, or have too much anger and not enough sense in their game.

It is rational to expect there would be more Unrecommends than Recommends, because most threads are not Recommend worthy, but many are Unrecommend worthy.

Counterbalancing my point of view are those who favor the Recommend feature.

This entire imbroglio is about the egos of those who cannot bear to see negative response to their threads, who only want positive feedback. The delusion has ended, and many are not happy about that, because they liked having it.

9. I mostly agree, but I don't think of either rec or unrec as needing to be used in most cases...
I don't think of it as an "i agree" or "i disagree" button. Naturally everyone is free to use it as they think best.

10. We're already seeing fewer of the serial thread starters' threads.
I think that's a good thing.

The new system is easy to use and quick, an advantage over the previous system. We should be seeing more Recommends than previously, but those will usually be outvoted by Unrecommends. The consensus RECOMMENDED threads will emerge, and as posters see what works, they'll alter their approach to starting threads to get the desired result. I think that will make the place better, not worse.

I'd love to have the actual vote tally shown on each thread. It's easy to think one's work is awesome when they get 30 Recommends, but if they get 300 Unrecommends with it, they'll get a more realistic view of their threads.

11. I like the convenience of the no-confirmation rec/unrec, but I do think the speedbump...
the old way would prevent some kneejerk recs/unrecs. But whatever.

It is pretty weak that they won't show the number of recs/unrecs. But what the hell - it ain't my website.

12. What about the ego of those that want to control content?
Or are there just good guys and bad guys and you know who they are?...The good guys agree with you and the bad guys don't,

And I thought PeeWee Herman was only a character created by Paul Reubens.

17. I've been deliberately recommending more posts than I did before.
Anything that seems intelligent to me is getting a rec from now on (I was fairly selective before). I've unrecommended a handful so far.
