People should have to pay to unrecommend.
That would do it. People would stop abusing it, and DU would make money.

19. My only fear about the unrec feature is trolls ganging up to sink good posts?
It seems like the unrec feature empowers them more than if their only option was to refrain from rec'g.

Does anyone see this happening, though? I've seen a lot of references to unhappiness with the unrec feature, but I haven't seen and explanation of the objections.

54. Nice alliteration, but this raises another point concerning support.
If I watch tv shows like "LOST" or football on Saturdays and Sundays, am I obligated to patronize the sponsors who spend big bucks to advertise? If I do not patronize the sponsors do I still have the right to complain about the shows or programming or scheduling?

Or, take my local newspaper, the La Crosse Tribune. I read it everyday for free online, yet I haven't bought a copy in many years. Online I may comment and read many comments about current stories, something I cannot get when buying the physical paper. Yes, I do see some ads online, but I do not patronize those advertisers because of their ads there. Again, do I have the right to comment or question on how the Tribune covers stories, or their fairness, or their lack of coverage if I am not contributing any money, directly or indirectly, to keep the paper running?

I am not questioning your premise about giving to DU, and situations where "free" is really "free". Given the state of this economy and being underemployed I admit to having to be a miser as much as possible.

either one. Open a "Rec/Unrec Account" and debit it a nickel for each click. Account usage limited to $10 a month-- that's 200 clicks a month.

That'll limit it to people who really care.
