Why is Imus going on Al Sharpton's show?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070409/ap_on_re_us/imus_protests

mus, Sharpton to meet on-air

By MARCUS FRANKLIN, Associated Press Writer 5 minutes ago
NEW YORK - Don Imus will appear on the Rev. Al Sharpton's radio show Monday, five days after Imus made racially charged comments on his own show about the Rutgers women's basketball team, Sharpton and MSNBC announced Sunday.

Despite Imus' scheduled appearance, Sharpton said his position was unchanged: He wants Imus fired and intends to write the Federal Communications Commission about the matter.

"Somewhere we must draw the line in what is tolerable in mainstream media," Sharpton said Sunday. "We cannot keep going through offending us and then apologizing and then acting like it never happened. Somewhere we've got to stop this."

The Rev. Jesse Jackson said his RainbowPUSH Coalition plans to protest Monday in Chicago outside the offices of NBC, which owns MSNBC, over the remark Imus made last Wednesday during his show....

...Jackson said protests are being planned across the country.

"If he has a right to use that platform to insult and degrade then we have a moral obligation to picket NBC and to protest," Jackson said. "If he can violate us in that platform in the name of free speech we'll be picketing NBC in the name of free speech."

1. Probably to try to save his hide
But I'm predicting Imus will just end up making a bigger mess for himself, which is fine.

2. If he's smart, he'll apoligize
But I've never thought Imus was the least bit smart.

3. He has apologized (halfheartedly) and will again, I bet.
I didn't know Rev. Al had a show, for starters.
Sharpton wants Imus fired, so this is an appeasement gesture.

19. Because this is how he "wins". Imus kissing ass will be a sight for sore, um, ears
This is a brilliant move on Sharpton's part. I'm betting Sharpton doesn't budge an inch until he gets something concrete out of Imus. Maybe Imus can see this has the power to kill his radio show. It's a slow build, but Imus was so over the top, so disgusting, this could certainly snowball. My assessment of Imus's intelligence just went up a notch (altho my assessment of his moral character remains subgutter). Ol' Leatherface is trying to get out in front of this one. I don't know how many teeth Sharpton is gonna pull out of him, but I'm telling you it will be a car crash worth gawking at.

26. Expect a tough interview
I think Sharpton will give Imus the sort of tough grilling that I believe he deserves. The remarks Imus made were the sort of disgusting rhetoric that has no place in modern America. If there is a transcript of the show, I would love to read it. If there is a podcast, I would love to hear it.

Suffice it to say, Imus will be on the hot seat.

8. Fuck all this. If Don "I-Am-An-Ass" wants to impress me. . .
let him PERSONALLY apologize in front of Rutgers coach Vivian Stringer and her team - one by one, face to face and get it all on tape for display in the MSM

:grr:

25. Exacto Mundo!
Apologize persoally to the ladies he insulted, not like he did to the public for what he said "regarding Rutgers".
That is the exact point of my e-mail I sent to the Imus show.

9. Al Sharpton is wildly brighter than this scum. I hope he shreds him.
He needs to be interviewed in a situation he and his slimey crew will NOT control. It's time someone pried him out of that studio, and invited him to explain himself without the filthy chorus of racists and women-loathing scums behind him.

They are insecure, ugly little trolls. I completely doubt Imus will be up to the challenge.

I think it's past time that this racist and sexist crap costs these people something! If it was up to me if I didn't can their ass I'd like to see networks suspend them w/o pay for a month or so. If their show goes in the tank without them - so be it.

21. I believe last time Imus was on Sharpton, Al made him promise
to stop with the racist crap. Imus has spewed this kind of crap many times before, and Sharpton has called him on it in the past. This isn't going to be good for Imus, the apologies don't work anymore.
