Free Republic: A Pervasive Culture Of Bigotry, David Schuster Should Do His Homework
Edited on Sun Jul-12-09 08:04 PM by WeDidIt
The Malia post at Free Republic exposed the pervasive culture at the site in a single thread, but the bigotry is not limited to that thread.

You can find cultural and racial stereotypes throughout their threads. In threads about John McCain, one dolt always posts racially charged cartoons of "Juan McCain". In threads about immigration, there are always racially charged posts depicting Hispanic people in a bad light. Any thread about Barack or Michelle Obama will always bring out racial stereotyping depicting African Americans poorly.

And don't get me started on any thread about gay rights.

These comments will always be by long time Freepers, and nobody EVER calls them out on the blatantly bigotted nature. The comments always remain and the threads are never pulled.

You can find examples of what I claim nearly every day with just a casual browsing of the threads on the site.

1. Free Republic is a hate group. The Southern Poverty Law Center should classify them as such. n/t

8. Free Republic sued someone for calling them a hate group
I believe it was a Fresno city official of some kind. FR sued for slander. It was years ago, I can't recall the details.

2. put a light on the cockroaches
and watch them scurry. I'm hoping Schuster's expose sheds a lot of light on the Freepers.

3. They have nothing else but hate.
They have no comprehension about anything.
Their only tools for discussion of any subject are ridicule, hate, tearing people down, etc.

Their threads are so different from the ones here - they truly live in the sewers.

Wasn't there some connection with what happened to Nicholas Berg? And something else. . .

Sent fake anthrax to Keith Olbermann, David Letterman and a bunch of people he decided were eeevul libruls. And the funny thing was, he really DID live in his mother's basement.

5. You are very wrong about them never being pulled.
As soon as the poster shoots someone, his posts are IMMEDIATELY pulled.

9. Schuster should talk to Dan Moldea, Joe Conason, and a few others.
I monitored FR every day for years. I reported attacks back to the victims of the attacks. The history of dirty tricks and subterfuge is long.

Remember the bar server at Chuy's restaurant in Texas who carded the Bush girls? FR posters published her personal, private information including medical records and address phone etc. They even published information about her daughter.

That's just one of the times they crossed the boundaries of decency.

In 2001, Brian Buckley, the then-attorney for FreeRepublic (using his screen name "Clarity") posted this:

“Why be so easy on the Clintons? Even after they are dead, I say we stuff their bodies, fix them in some kind of preservative and display them at county fairs across the nation, on a rotating basis where the citizenry can have fun putting cow dung on them (remember that’s ‘art’). If that’s not in good taste, their bodies should be flattened thin as possible, again fixed in some kind of preservative and hoisted up a flag pole to flap in the wind.”

Particularly onerous are Doug From Upland and Kristinn.

12. free republic was investigated by the feds about a death threat made to a public official
no one monitored the thread and it was not pulled. after the feds stopped by he ran a half assed statement about what happened. stormfront did the same thing several years ago and were investigated. today stormfront has warnings on three of their most popular discussion forums. after looking through free republic i found no warnings about posting only a rules buried in his site.

17. Not to mention the number of Right Wing Terrorists who've been a
part of that community. Seems like 5-6 out of the top national headline grabbing killings/bombings/shootings lately were Freepers:

Guy who shot up the UCC church in TN
Guy who laid in wait and shot the cops
Guy who shot up the Holocaust museum
Guy who shot Dr Tiller

I'm missing a couple more....
