Dukakis Aide Resigns Over Remark on Bush

Donna Brazile, deputy national field director of the Dukakis campaign, resigned last night after telling reporters covering the campaign that they should pursue rumors, which she did not document, about Vice President Bush's personal life. In resigning, she said: ''Today I made certain comments which I deeply regret. I believe too strongly in the importance of electing Mike Dukakis and Lloyd Bentsen to allow myself to become an issue in the campaign. Because the time is short, and the issues are so important, I have decided to leave the campaign. I wish Mike Dukakis and Lloyd Bentsen the best in the final weeks of the campaign.''
Paul Brountas, chairman of the Dukakis campaign, told reporters tonight that Ms. Brazile had ''voluntarily resigned'' and that she ''regrets'' the remarks. ''She does not speak for the campaign,'' he added, ''and she did not speak for the campaign when she made those remarks.'' Mr. Brountas said Mr. Dukakis ''saw Vice President Bush tonight and he apologized for those remarks.''

One day, while speaking with reporters, Brazile mentioned the oft-repeated rumors that Bush had committed adultery. She urged the reporters to investigate the charges against the Republican candidate. Later, Brazile publicly denounced the Bush campaign's racist tactics, and denounced him as a philanderer.

http://www.answers.com/topic/donna-brazileI lived in DC at the time. The rumors I heard were tha HW Bush had been caught with another woman. It was also said that the CIA came in to clean up the mess and make it go away. Bush had headed the CIA at one time. Brazile couldn't name her source, and nobody wanted the CIA after them.
I knew someone at that time who was in a position to know more than the average bear. I was told that the story wasn't completely false. I didn't doubt it because I didn't trust the CIA then. After all the hoohah now, I am not surprised. I can't prove what Bush did either, but I don't discount this story.
