Possible trojan in FAKE email about US strike on Iran. BE CAREFUL with your email
Just got this from our virus filter from our server:

From: sick pay <hsir@ciudad.com.ar>
Subject: Missle Strike: The USA kills more then 10000 Iranian citizens
Virus: AUTH-W32/Trojan.ADUB

Be careful what you open folks. I have long suspected the spam we get seems tailored to what we look at on the web. Perhaps something has been sent to us news hounds that would temp us to open in a panic. Be careful about opening mail from sources you don't usually receive from.

3. You & I know it's fake, but some of the newly questioning folks might not
and that is a worry. Pardon my tin foil, but who stands to gain if a lot of computers get trojans or viruses?

13. It's nice to warn people about this one in particular,
but the truth is that those who would open this email probably open everything under the sun and forward every chain email to everybody they have in their address book. You can only go so far in protecting people from themselves. My very simple solution is to use a Mac. I don't miss the old pc days having to worry about trojans and viruses, constantly getting my anti virus updated and doing maintenance. Of course, when I used a pc I didn't open any email attachments and that was pretty easy also. Still, the Mac is so, so much nicer.

14. Belive it or not, there are a lot of folks new to computers & the internet
Seems lots of folks have the notion the TV isn't telling them what they need to know. Newbies out there not always up on security, but learning. I know, because I teach some of them how to do a bit of web surfing for fun AND RESEARCH.

I LOVE my job ;)

2. Well, maybe as a general thing, but they certainly shouldn't expect people
that are really visiting sites looking for news to fall for something so ridiculous. I'd say it's just general spam/virus crap sentences, but one that happened to catch your eye.

5. I received 2 of these, and yes
they did contain a virus.

For folks who don't know about this program, I have used http://www.avast.com/ for a year now and am very pleased with it. I'll never return to the name-brand crap.

10. It didn't even make it past my server
They are rather good about holding suspect email, but lots of people don't have the same level of service.

7. Mine said the U.S. had started bombing Iran. Said that in bad English.
And Norton removed the attachment with the trojan in it, I forget which one it was.

So apparently the subject lines are tailored to what we read, yes.

8. I got 'em too in my bulk mail folder

Rather than open either one I immediately came here and looked in LBN for corroboration. Seeing none, I deleted them--unopened. Glad to hear I am developing a bit of Web savvy in my "old" (i.e., 40-something) age.

9. I got that tonight.
It had an attachment titled 'News.exe'.

NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER...

...open a '.exe' attachment, even if you get it from a friend. Exceptions to this exist, but always involve the risk of opening something that turns your hard drive into Chernobyl.

I deleted that shit as soon as I saw that, but I did open it first. My email is web-based, so attachments don't open automatically.
