Cheney's "Leave Behinds" at the CIA Have Begun His Defense
Edited on Mon Jul-13-09 09:23 AM by Vinnie From Indy
The Wall Street Journal (surprise, surprise) is reporting that "anonymous sources" within the CIA have revealed that the secret program whose existence was hidden from Congress concerned the killing or capture of Al-Queda operatives.

Is there any doubt that these latest anonymous sources are merely Dick Cheney's leave behinds trying desperately to lay down some kind of defense for him?

If the program was about assassination squads, one can be sure that the spin by the right wing propaganda machine will be that Cheney was simply trying to get "really bad guys."

As with the illegal spying issue, the public story that will almost surely get relentlessly pushed by BushCo will be filled with all sorts of qualifiers. For example, it was almost a law that when the spying issue was discussed in the media that the story always included a line that the spying was ONLY on foreign communications. The aspect of DOMESTIC spying was always studiously avoided when being discussed in the media. Even today, most Americans have no idea the extent of domestic spying that occurred under GW Bush. Most are still under the impression that the wholesale spying by the Bushies was simply between "really, really, really bad" terrorists overseas.

This initial BushCo defense to the latest revelation of crime appears to also have two qualifiers that the right wing media can repeat ad nauseum. The first is that the program was never operational and the second is that it was aimed solely at Al-Queda. Get ready to hear these two points religiously included in any further revelations.

It should also be noted that if this "secret program" was simply about killing or capturing Al-Queda, it should have easily fallen under the initial authorization by Congress to do those very things. Judging by Pantetta's actions it is highly likely that this program was not your run of the mill program.

5. Whatever they are telling you...
you can bet it is nothing but a diversion from the truth. The "plan" was only under study? Does that mean it was never implemented, not even once?

The plan was to kill or capture al Qaeda? What was so secret about that? That was the plan for the entire military in Afghanistan. What was different about "their plan"?

The spin is on.

9. Cheney is also bound to have many enemies in the CIA from his outing of Valarie Plame.
People in that world tend not to forget old grievances. That any of this is in the news may be payback. The very last thing any of these people want is publicity

There is ample evidence that a leopard doesn't change it's spots, let's see if it holds true this time

On edit forgot the 'in spook speak' of 'suicided' instead of the more contemptible word that starts with an 'M'
