Freerepublic Refuses To Apologize For Racist Remarks Against Obama's Daughter...

That's the only thing that anyone will take away from the Schuster interview.

What got me was his comment that the stuff wasn't "that vile."

I would have liked more attention paid to this subject -- given all the other shit FR has posted -- but I guess they have to move on.

Part of getting your message across on TV, whether we like it or not, is your physical appearance. He failed miserably in that way.

I define a true racist by someone who says things like that man did with no idea what they are sounding like. Sure we all know people who make racist remarks that they try to cushion, but when there is no cushion, there is no doubt what they are. Disgusting.

Feels like they cut that a lot shorter than what they had planned on when that dofus wouldn't say anything in defense or apologize for the comments. The guy went on the offense (and frankly showing the Freeper insane mentality) and was just spewing baseless attacks of ALL liberals. He was being given an opportunity to explain FR and the comments there, but instead used what he thought was going to be his 15 minutes as a podium to grandstand. If I were a producer, I'd have cut that segment immediately. A rambling moron yelling over the host and avoiding questions isn't good television.

and give the real side of the story. It was definitely cut short, partly because of that gasbag, but I'd imagine also partly because Shuster was about to tell that POS off.

Upon replaying, Shuster looked ready to blow his top and unload. Probably a good idea to cut it short...Freeper ended up looking like the unbalanced one but everyone got gyped on the real story.

First thing that came to my mind - was Shuster not allowed to repeat the comments posted on FR? I understand they are vile and no one wants to hear them again, but it does make it harder to argue with the bigots when you can't use their words against them. If Shuster wasn't allowed to repeat the comments on air, that put him at a disadvantage.

Second - the guy immediately deflected criticism aimed at FR and attacked Daily Kos. That just screamed nutjob. Really showed the victim mentality of the right.

That's how the racists at FR roll.

If there was a specific request from the White House to not have those comments read aloud. If not from Barack or Michelle directly, then one of their spokespeople.

And not lying that they are trying to protect their readers from such!

Than answer lies in FR's initial request of their posters to "caption" the photo of 11 year old Malia -- What kind of responses were they expecting? -- That was "encouraging" ugly remarks and they knew it.

BTW, seventeen year old Britol Palin, to whom the Freep was clearly referring, may be Sarah Palin's "child" but in terms of age, there is obviously no comparison to an ELEVEN year old.

I believe Schuster was trying to say that, but the Freep tried to "filibuster" the whole exchange and barely let him finish a sentence.

They'll still be racist turds who only apologized because they were backed into a corner...

He could have been way more effective with a few simple tactics.


-He should have quoted a few of the comments so his audience knew what these "vile remarks" included. This would have nullified the freeper's "they weren't that bad" line, or at least painted him in the proper light of being a blatant racist and idiot. He didn't need to repeat any that used the N-word, but "ghetto trash" would certainly have set the stage.

-He (or a producer/director) should have cut, or reduced the volume of, the freeper's mic so he could get a word in edgewise. He was bullied. He has access to the technology to prevent this and save his own face, but he didn't use it.

-He should have done his homework about when the thread started, when it was removed, and when it was put back up. He could have given the count of how many posts it had, including how few of those posts actually tried to defend Obama's daughter from the shit being flung. He should have been specific.

-He should have been forward with his sources. Sure, he probably got his info from DailyKOS, but he could have obtained his info from the Vancouver newspaper, or DU, or any number of other places. If he had told the freeper that he had multiple sources, he might have looked less like a wimp.

-He could have included more info about freerepublic, including the ties to Dr. Tiller's assassin and the Holocaust Museum shooter. Maybe paint the picture a little bit better by including information on how other threads frequently use such racist, bigoted, misogynistic, and purely hateful language. This would have made his freeper guest look like a whiny little turd when he starts in with the "but they do it too" garbage.

-When the freeper brought up Palin (and we all knew he would), Schuster should have stopped him cold by saying that this interview/discussion was about Malia, not Bristol.



Normally, I like Schuster and his colleagues at MSNBC (I don't get up early enough to catch Morning Joe, and when the doctor show is on, my kids monopolize the TV with Discovery Kids shows), but he was made to look like a fool today. If it was a debate, Schuster got pwnd by an intellectual lightweight because he couldn't/wouldn't defend himself or his story when he had the chance.

Let's hope that Olbermann gives this story a mention, maybe in Worst Persons.

The message I got out of it was that FR relies on it's own racists to report on racist statements.
