GOP to Target Recess
GOP to Target Recess
Parties Spar on Iraq Deadline By Emily Pierce
Roll Call Staff
April 9, 2007

After weeks of arguing over when the military will run out of money, House and Senate Republicans hope to up the rhetorical ante this week by formally calling on Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to bring the House back from a two-week spring recess to finish drafting the controversial $120 billion-plus Iraq War spending bill.

2. This from the party that ran the show during the "do nothing" days?
of 2006?

The party that whined about how Pelosi changed the work-week from 3 days to 5 days per week?

3. Thank You!
I really wish Pelosi would call them on their hypocrisy.

Perhaps she could document a few times bills had to wait until after a recess under the 109th Congress, which was led by the GOP.

She needs to call them what they are: hypocrites with a double standard who judge everyone else on a different standard to which they uphold themselves.

I am so sick of Republicans.

7. In 2006, they took 119 days to pass the Iraq funding bill
and that was with a Republic-controlled Congress.

4. Since the last time they did this was to "save" Terri Schrivo ...
I'm willing to wager this is a suck up to their base.

8. That'd Piss Jack Kingston Off
The asshat from Georgia complained that those long 4 day work weeks would pull him away from his family (then he flies off to LA and tapes Bill Mahrer's show...hypocrite!!).

I'd love to see Nancy call their bluff on this shit. Even better...force his assholiness back from his chicken ranch to have to veto the bill...ruin that fukstick's "downtime" a little.

11. I agree. Call their bluff
It will piss them off that they have to return early. Hell, keep the congress in session for as long as it takes to push through the bill under the democrats' terms. It's what they would have done.

15. The Way To Avoid Recess Appointments
I've got no problem them staying in session for the remainder of booooshie's term. Then he couldn't use recess appointments and would be careful on those signing statements, too. Henry Waxman has plenty of work to keep the House going 24/7 for years to come.

10. Emergency! Emergency!
This is just to be able to say, when the Dems refuse to do this, that they don't care if our troops die due to lack of funding.

12. This congress spent its first mont or so...
finishing business that the previous congress never got to. Little things like the FY2007 budget that started Oct 2k6.

They don't have a case here.

Already in the 2nd week of the 2 week break.
