Al Gore will open the Tribeca Film Festival with global-warming themed SOS Short Films Program
NYT/Reuters: Gore Opens Tribeca with SOS Sidebar
By REUTERS
Published: April 9, 2007

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - Al Gore will be the opening act at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 25, hosting the global warming-themed SOS Short Films Program.

Drew Barrymore and Eric Bana will hit Tribeca midfest for the world premiere of Curtis Hanson's romantic drama ``Lucky You,'' and the Tribeca curtain will fall with the premiere of Antonio Ferrera and Albert Maysles' art-project documentary ''The Gates.''

The SOS program will feature seven shorts and music performances by acts set to appear at Live Earth, a worldwide 24-hour concert benefiting Gore's Alliance for Climate Protection. The July 7 Live Earth event will be produced by Gore and SOS founder Kevin Wall.

Sixty SOS shorts are now being filmed by an array of acclaimed indie directors, including Jonathan Glazer (''Sexy Beast''), Kevin MacDonald (''The Last King of Scotland') and Amy Berg (''Deliver Us From Evil''). The seven opening-night films will be announced April 22....

1. Al Gore has sold out - we need a new person to promote Anti-Global Warming
Al Gore has sold us out.

First, we find out that for years, he has lived in a 22 room mansion with a $39,000.00 per year energy bill...
He has a heated swimming pool and large, high energy burning lawn and sumptuous grounds surrounding his palace...
For years, he has had a fleet of SUVs and other fuel guzzling automobiles...
For years, he has traveled by jet and private jet, renting huge holes in the ozone layer...

Now he is speaking (probably paid) before a group of "landscape architects". For those of you who do not know, a landscape architect begins his job by taking a bulldozer to mother nature's balance and replaces it with some sprinklered, corporate rendition of "nature", where the most natural thing in it will probably be the mosquitoes, unless they put deadly chemicals in the reflecting pond and fountain to stop their spread.

Al was a good messenger, but he must begin to practice what he preaches.

He wrote "Earth in the Balance" in 1991. It has been on my bookshelf ever since.
He just bought a hybrid last month.
AL!!!! WAKE UP!

2. You are joking, I hope.
Since the whole home energy usage issue has been addressed and debunked. Also, of course Al would want to talk to some of the worst polluters about updating their methods.
Otherwise, welcome to DU, blah, blah, blah.

3. I'm a bit of a harsh environmentalist, so don't cut much slack
I have personally made huge crimps in my lifestyle to support environmentalism.
I don't drive an automobile (YES, I have a driver's license, and NO I didn't lose it. YES, I can AFFORD a car quite easily.)
I live in a small home within city limits instead of far out of town, a wasteful commute away and with a wasteful lawn which must be maintained at a cost to the natural order.

So I am a bit harsh on people who squander energy.

I was astounded to see Al's energy bill recently and feel betrayed. That's all.

4. Then you haven't paid attention.
Al uses 100% Green renewable energy through Tennessee's Green Power Switch program.
http://www.nespower.com/green_power_switch.aspx

In fact, he buys more blocks of Green Power than he actually using. Also, for the energy he has to use that is not green (his cars, airplane rides, etc) he buys carbon offsets.

If you had paid attention, you would know that Al walks the walk.

But since you're new, maybe you haven't been reading the info that the M$M only reports in passing. Yes, they have reported on Al's green power usage, but usually as a footnote.

6. It's also his office!
Look, I work near Belle Meade. I have seen his house. The grounds aren't that large.

You are simply trying to dis the man who has done more to bring awareness of global Warming to the world than anyone.
What have you done?

10. Yawn. Regurgitating right wing talking points won't help you
here, of all places. Do a little research and find the truth, but don't just repeat the right wing Bushit. It won't protect you from the Global Climate Crisis, and it won't win you any allies here on DU.
