Shopping list could make you 'a terror suspect'
The European Union's privacy watchdog has given warning that new access for Europol to personal data could lead to individuals being labelled as terror suspects based on hearsay or records of their shopping habits.

The warning, from the head of the European Data Protection supervisor, comes amid moves to allow the EU police agency to process so-called "soft data" in search of relevant information for its criminal investigations.

Peter Hustinx said that moves to give Europol the power to gather intelligence on "people who have not (yet) committed a crime" are without privacy safeguards

He told The Daily Telegraph: "The proposal does not specify what data could be used in criminal investigations. It could be everything. It could be a vital detail such as an insurance company about a stolen car. But it could also be soft data, behavioural data."

1. Why does this not surprise me?
Any excuse to get info on people is used, most likely for nefarious purposes. One of the great lessons of history has been that when information on a person is gathered, it is inevitably used against them.
It is very difficult for people not to use said information against an individual or group, the only question is what would the motive be?

Information has always been a gateway for power, I am truly ashamed that the people of Europe have fallen for all of this terrorist crap. I not, in any way, a supporter of terrorism, but soon, very soon, the state will become the terrorist, and for that, we always pay a huge price...:(

4. This makes it easier for Monsanto to have all the farmers rounded up too
Sometime in the course of a week's work, a farmer needs something that has other uses and would land him/her on a list.

Round up ANYBODY who knows how to use ANYTHING and the world is a safer place... for corporations.
