6. And that's the worst part of this story
I can imagine the parents discussing this clusterfuck of a son. Ah well they socialized him really well.

12. It gets better -
that's not his biological father. It's his stepfather, who, I believe, adopted the boy.

Ah, they must be SO proud ....................

...have the comforting thought that my DNA was not to blame.

Same comfort ~~ but it would be something!

7. Yep -
Rachel just did a great interview with a LV reporter who's been uncovering all sorts of stuff about how the parents' payoff was characterized, and now the IRS is gonna get involved.

Absolute death, coming up!

22. You certainly have not
overstated it.

Isn't this a hell of a time? We're not doing anything except moving forward, and the GOPigs are doing all the things - by themselves - that we would have done to them if we'd taken the time, had the HAZMAT suits, and lost the bet........................

10. If the parents claimed that money as "gifts"
for the IRS, but the recipients claimed them as "income," as in severance pay - well, there's some dissonance there, and the IRS just HATES dissonance. Plus, the ethics rules of the Senate go completely insane with a set of facts such as this.

Don't forget that it was, ultimately, the IRS who nailed Al Capone.............................

24. The determination of "legal"
isn't yet called up, because the fact patterns - the two stories - have to be investigated.

THAT's the messy part.

Yeah, you've got it.....................

5. First, it was a gift -
but not reported by the giftee as such.

Now it's severance, and, oh, the troubles that will cause!!!

Screw with anyone, but NOT WITH THE IRS! Not EVER!

I wonder if that $96,000.00 is coming out of his allowance......................................

I'm sure they've been buying his way out of trouble for decades.

21. The parents can give $12,000 to an individual
in a fiscal year without that individual incurring any tax liability, provided it meets the IRS requirements for "gift."

The people who got this money from Ensign's parents apparently received them as "severance pay," which made them taxable income, and that's a flag for the IRS - the two fact patterns don't match up.

So, the question arises - why did the parents give the money to those people, and that triggers an investigation which could, conceivably, uncover criminal activity.

Does that help?

25. The IRS can be expected to administer a good ass-kicking.
As I understand it, each parent gave $12,000 "gifts" to two of the mistress' children and to her and her husband -- eight "gifts" totaling $96,000. Are they claiming the entire $96K was severance funds? If so, this reeeeeally looks fishy. The IRS does not take kindly to tax fraud.

27. The whole thing couldn't have been severance -
since only one kid worked for them.

So, conceivably, one of the kids seriously got a valid gift of $24,000.

(Loud laughter)

My parents' friends used to give me ice cream money - like a dollar, if I was really lucky.

My parents had all the wrong friends.........................
