"Summer camps reel from swine-flu increase." Swiss cases in summer camps.
now the authorities, on appearance of cases, state almost always that the situation is in control.
but they relate with their local situation - and figures of this influence impact are on the growth all over europe.
we all know what the WHO has stated about the pandemic - and interesting threads here already discussed about the risks from vaccinations.

this is what's happening in Switzerland, where 184 A/H1N1 cases have been recorded and 84 cases are being investigated:

"Summer camps in Switzerland are proving to be fertile areas for influenza A/H1N1, with more than 130 people either sick or exposed to swine flu in four cantons.

At an international institute in Verbier, where students aged 8-18 come from all over the globe for three weeks of sports in the Alps, officials said more than 40 youths and ten camp leaders had become ill in recent days. Last week there were 14 people ill at the camp.

"The state of their health is good," authorities in canton Valais wrote in a statement on Friday, adding that the situation is "entirely under control". Another 70 people at the institute had been treated preemptively and were doing well. Some had already returned to their home countries."

this is getting more serious, at a daily rate.

1. Yes, it is...but there's no reason to panic.
Panic is just as counterproductive as ignoring it.

Stay informed, stay prepared, stay calm.

3. that's for sure, yes.
living in a crowded holiday place, on the italian coast, with cases appeared just a couple of weeks ago some miles from here - you know, you feel it closer than any news can make you feel.

so we're careful and all but in panic, but frankly a little worried about how the authorities would answer a pandemic explosion here in late summer.

and living in italy, my worries are twice more justified. we're not famous for handling emergencies with the necessary timeliness.

4. Personal preparedness is almost always the best solution...to any problem.
I'm not talking about building a bunker, just putting away enough staples to last for at least 3-5 weeks. Food, water, toilet paper, soap, some basic first-aid supplies...things that everybody should probably have on hand even without the concerns associated with a pandemic virus.

Most people panic because they feel powerless. Being informed and prepared is empowering.
