STATEMENT FROM NBC NEWS ON IMUS
Quoting the statement from NBC News:

"Beginning Monday, April 16, MSNBC will suspend simulcasting the syndicated "Imus in the Morning" radio program for two weeks. This comes after careful consideration in the days since his racist, abhorrent comments were made. Don Imus has expressed profound regret and embarrassment and has made a commitment to listen to all of those who have raised legitimate expressions of outrage. In addition, his dedication - in his words - to change the discourse on his program moving forward, has confirmed for us that this action is appropriate. Our future relationship with Imus is contingent on his ability to live up to his word.

The previously scheduled Imus radiothon in support of the Tomorrow's Children's Fund, the CJ Foundation for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome research and the Imus Ranch will air, as scheduled, this Thursday and Friday on MSNBC."

1. Was he drunk or something?
Or just drunk on himself? He has been getting worse and worse..I rarely watch him, but every time I catch a few minutes it amazes me that he is still on the air.

Imus, Gibson, "Kramer".. lots of inner demons out there.

8. Good questions..I'm
thinking maybe something good will come out of this as far as people like coulter are concerned.

Maybe(?)she and her ilk will swallow their racist, homophobic comments in fear of being imused?

2. What exactly is a simulcast? Do they mean his TV show will continue to be
...broadcast, but his radio show will not be broadcast? What kind of penalty is that? He should be off the air period, but at least not heard from for two weeks in either media.

3. The TV show is actually a radio show with cameras on
They simply won't show it on TV.

5. I think that's backwards - the radio show will still be on
(unless CBS pulls the plug) but there will be no TV simulcast. Not near enough punishment in my opinion. I'd like to see this asshole piece of shit fired.

6. Translation: We'll Re-Run "Best Of Anus" Shows
The money's gotta be made.

Lots of buck passing here.

First...the show originates from MSNBC's Fort Lee Studios (he used to do it from the WFAN Astoria studios, but mvoed to MSNBC Central)...it's the same studios Keith Olbermann originates from. So there's a bunch of buck passing here.

If this had been some small town radio doofus who pissed off a main client, he'd be out the door...but Anus means $$$$...and I expect there'll be a build-up for his "return".

They're crying all the way to the bank.

13. It's A Incestual Relationship...
Let me see if I can split the hairs here. His radio station is WFAN...owned by Infinity Broadcasting...which was CBS Radio but now a seperate division of Viacom. His show is syndicated to 70 radio stations via CBS Radio...they make money selling advertising time within the show, thus pay him a fee ontop of what WFAN and Infinity do (who are considered his prime employer). His show is then aired on stations owned by several major chains...specifically Entercom and Clear Channel. And that's just the radio side.

The show is then broadcast via MSNBC...but the show has been drastically redone for TV over the years. It's gone from a radio show done on TV to a TV show done for radio. It was moved from the WFAN studios to MSNBC studios...and it's MSNBC that also set up the remote set up at his ranch. Anus would survive without MSNBC more than MSNBC would...who have done well with ratings over the years with the show...and it's cheap as dirt to produce.

17. thanks for the explaination, so it's basically LESS than
a slap on the wrists. He can survive w/out MSNBC, who has 'suspended' his show. But it will still air on the affiliates as usual via WFAN?

18. Less Than A Wrist Slap
The two week timing is curious. A good time to let things "cool off" and blow over. By then the corporate media will be onto another dead blonde or what Nancy Pelosi is wearing and Anus can slide back into the saddle as if nothing happened.

Note the "show" was suspended...not Anus...thus it's a paid vacation, and, yes, it doesn't affect his radio stations. That's up to the individual stations and/or CBS Radio...and they're being very, very quiet...letting MSNBC take the heat.

12. What racist language would have earned Imus 3 weeks?
Edited on Mon Apr-09-07 06:17 PM by RiverStone
The point is - WTF type of reprimand is that MSNBC? 2 weeks based on what standard I wonder.... Who made up that formula?

A much more effective statement to the general public, other broadcasters, and the families of those 8 young women would have been to fire his ass.

By giving Imus a 2 week break, it turns his "discipline" into a farce and minimizes the gravity of his comments. Yea, there is a hell of alot more important things to worry about then this asshat; though I'd love for the wave of Imus disgust to carry over to MSNBC and those that pay to advertise there.

15. Beginning April 16th??? Why the week grace period?
Are they going to parade white men into the show all week to explain how contrite they know Imus must be?
