Life is Short. Really.
Edited on Wed Jul-22-09 09:05 PM by Ripley
It's a marvel that some people are living into their one-hundred-teens. But they're pretty much anomalies.

Most people make it into their seventh decade. In America most middle-aged people (wait, young ones, too) are prescribed and are on a nasty soup of pharmaceuticals. Life spans = not so good. Health care should not be based upon synthetic drugs profits.

The oldest living person was a woman named Jeanne Calment (21 February 1875 – 4 August 1997), who lived 122 years 164 days.

2. kudos to Jeanne Calment.
I find that alot of people in their 50's die of heart attacks and cancer. (I'm in my 50's). I know quite a few people who have died ahead of me. I always thought I'd go first. Watch me live to be 100.

8. Well, Hell. Aint that the prob?
When you become very sick, what options are there?

Just watching TV as most folks do would seem to give you the answer of "ask your doctor" who would give you a drug.

How do you know which ones are poison and which ones aren't?

9. No shit!
Longer and better lives, where?

Why is that? Well, the drug companies want us baby boomers sick and feeling bad and going to our doctors who will write a prescription for this and that and DAMN!

10. I always liked to believe that Charlie Smith was as old as he claimed
And by his accounts, he was 137 when he died. Ok, he embellished his life a lot, but he sure looked older than dirt. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Smith_(centenarian)

Voices from the Days of Slavery
Charlie Smith, Age Uncertain

"The highest bidder gets you. He'll carry his plantation. Put another one up there. Me highest bid, which ever one bid, gives the most, he'll carry him to his plant, that the white, in the South. And they went to mistreating the, the colored. Getting children by the colored women. And all such as that, getting colored. And the white find it out, how they was treating them. They hurt them. And they come down here, the first war ever was in the United State was the North and South fought a war to free the colored."

17. The link was supposed to go here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Smith_(centenarian)

It talks a little about Charlie Smith's life and the debate about how old he actually was. However old he was when he died, he was a character and the news guys always loved covering him.

12. Let's have a poll on whether or not human life should be short?
Or should it be on whether human life is short?

Gee, I don't know which question we should ask. Maybe we should have a poll on that.

;-)
