5. I listen to "Lionel" when I can.....
http://www.lionelonline.com/

He currently broadcasts out of an industry powerhouse in NYC - WOR 710 AM. He's originally from Tampa, Florida.

He's not as "left" as Sam Seder but, how I would describe Lionel is this...he's a "centrist"....I guess another way to describe the difference between Sam and Lionel is this....

Sam has tried to make the point about the Bush Administration that you shouldn't fall into the trap of thinking that it is only "incompetence" that has afflicted this administration. That when you espouse an ideology of "govt being the problem", it's not just "incompetence" that drives these people, it is there intention to make sure govt doesn't work.

Whereas.... Lionel would argue that it is just "incompetence"..Lionel tends to not get too involved into the inner workings (as Sam does) of the geo/political/economic situation for fear of putting his listener-ship to sleep. I don't know what that says for the intelligentsia of his listener-ship. Maybe he just realizes that mainstream radio listeners aren't really interested. He's a subtle "lefty" in some respects.

Maybe he will become more "hardcore" on the issues if he moves over to AAR from WOR.

2. He's coming to the station here that carries AAR talkers
Edited on Mon Apr-09-07 07:29 PM by eleny
In the Denver area, he's replacing a real snore of a broadcast at midnight. The current guy is out of California and boring as hell. Can't recall his name.

But at that hour, Bernie Ward (KGO-AM) is available streaming online. I doubt I'll switch from listening to Bernie, "The Lion of the Left".

Edit - We only get Sam on the weekends late at night. Bummer even now.

In all his Alan Colmes-esque glory.

4. To be fair - he hates George Bush and has said it over and over on the air
I've never heard colmes ever say anything near that.

But Lionel is no replacement for Sam. Sam is smart, fresh and humorous as well. I was hoping we'd get his show daily instead of just on the weekends. This is a big AAR mistake. Hope he gets a gig with NovaM.

6. I admit, Sam is more "hardcore" on the issues....
But Lionel is also very funny, witty and topical...

But to be truthful, I will miss hearing Sam everyday. In the end, the Listener is the loser because I, as a listener, was able to hear Sam and Lionel everyday. Now I'm losing Seder.

That sucks. He's a talented man.

7. Nice to have had both programs, locally
I think Lionel had some brilliant programs. I especially like the ones where he invited the hard core right wingers to call in and he'd spend a whole segment with one caller. Shades of Bernie Ward. Some of his techniques are an education.

And Sam is young. Maybe even the youngest broadcaster in the AAR lineup. He brings his own brand of diverse approach during his program. He's terrific with right wing callers. And his calling out bits are so smart. I have to shake my head in disbelief that AAR doesn't see it.
