I post an article about Republicans inability to do comedy, Republican proves my point.
I posted this article to Facebook and Twitter:

http://www.avclub.com/articles/every-time-a-republican-tries-comedy,30744/?utm_medium=RSS&utm_campaign=feeds&utm_source=avclub_rss_daily

A guy on my friend list who apparently has nothing better to do than make "smart" comments about all of my left-leaning posts shared this little gem, completely proving the point of the article:

"Go drive your Prius to Whole Foods and sit back with some tofu chips to watch Bravo all day. The rest of us will be working to pay the government while it squanders the nation's wealth."

Fish, meet barrel.

2. Comedy, satire, irony are just a few of the things they don't get.
Selfish, greedy and asshole they do quite well. Willfully ignorant makes a strong showing with them too.

3. Bravo really hurts the humor
suggest editing to Oxygen or Lifetime.

You should punch up this unfunny thing and post it as a reply.

4. The thing that kills me about his response is that we're both in the same line of work.
We're both music teachers, so his bit about "the rest of us will be working" was just uncomfortably shoehorned in there to try to make a point.

20. LOL! Talking to my right-wing BIL the other day and reminded hm of several things:
Edited on Thu Jul-23-09 09:53 PM by SharonAnn
1. He retired early from a union job (teaching) and gets health care and a 3% COLA every year.

2. He now has a business that provides construction safety training to developers. The need for this training is due to OSHA requirements. OSHA is a Federal government program.

3. He just landed "huge orders" for $300 K as part of the Stimulus Package.

So, he's spent his entire life living off the government, whether it was local, state, or Federal and so he is "biting the hands that feed him."

9. Like Alan King said "There is no such thing as a Stupid Comedian.....
...there are some comedians who ACT stupid but you do need to be smart to make people laugh."

And lets face it, there are a lot of people who are Republicans only because they Don't know what is going on in the world or they are willfully ignorant in order to keep their ideology.

Larry the Cable Guy is actually a VERY smart man. However his Cable Guy thing is an ACT. It is just a Character.

Also I really miss William F. Buckley.
Now There was a Smart Conservative and guess what? HE WAS FUNNY!!

14. Sahl was all over the place politically.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mort_Sahl

"He also occasionally wrote jokes for speeches delivered by President John F. Kennedy"

"Following Kennedy's assassination in 1963, Sahl's interest in who was behind it was so great that he became a deputized member of New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison's team to investigate the murder. As a result, Sahl's comedy began to reflect his politics and included readings and commentary on the Warren Commission Report. "

"During the 1980s, Sahl made many jokes critical of his old friend, Ronald Reagan. Sahl and his wife were invited to the White House by Nancy Reagan, where President Reagan roasted him at a White House tribute in front of many other top comedians. Sahl said to television interviewer Charlie Rose of the Reagans, "They are very, very forgiving."

In the 1988 presidential election, Sahl was the most prominent supporter of unsuccessful candidate Alexander Haig.<1>"

particularly for convention appearances.
A fascinating guy with a fascinating life. And really damned funny.

17. Yup. Though he is a hard comedian to find his work even though many list him as an influence.
I collect a lot of comedy and i only have maybe two things by him.

19. You are so right about the scarcity of his recorded work
I am only familiar with it due to transcriptions of his routines and assorted quips.
It's like those red ink words of Jesus in the Bible or something...

22. A lot of comedians are like that.
Especially rare are the recordings of any of the comedians who worked the strip club or "Chitlon" circuit because they were doing "blue" material in the fifties or sixties.

21. Not funny. Just mean-spirited.
If sniping is what he was going for, he succeeded. But it's not comedic at all.
