14. I hope not - but not because it's Michelle. I like her.
It's just that I, for example, look atrocious with short hair. I'm sure other women do, as well.

If a woman has the face for that look - then great. But I hope women would make a decision on her hair style based on what looks good on her - not what someone else is doing.

19. As a sistah myself. I know how they cut the nape of the neck and no way
would it be cut so it would stick out like that.

It'd be cut really short...almost with a razor and brushed with a boar's hair brush to be smooth.

40. With her beautiful hair no. I've never seen her in a wig. Wigs are often really shiny
and our hair isn't naturally shiny...like wigs are. She doesn't even have in wefts for a weave. She has what I call Oprah hair. I'm amazed @ her hair...because it is so hard not to pull on a wig or to put in a weave. I think she makes it a point to not wear wigs and weaves...she's making a statement.

I don't even thinks she gets the strong relaxers. It looks like she gets a mild relaxer and a bangin high heat blow out...which is where the body comes from. God, I gush when I see her hair. Hair in the black community is a crown that EVERYONE can wear. Hair is so important. I'm so proud to have her as First Lady because she looks good and her hair is always right on.

To keep her hair looking and moving like it does she MUST have a stylist on call 24/7. Our hair is WAY to difficult to manage. Too much heat breaks, not enough, nappy... if the hair too dry it breaks, too much oil or oil dress looks goopy and chunky.

I would love the opportunity to go to her stylist and learn how to take care of my hair. I gotta find out if he does classes. My hair sometimes makes me so depressed and embarrassed sometimes it hurts. Seeing Michelle gives me hope that I can do it too.

44. Weaves would chunk out. They don't fall naturally. I've never seen her
have those chunks. Even on inauguration day, her hair didn't chunk out.

I have a weave, I get the closest real hair to match my NATURAL nappy ass texture. I pay over 250 bucks for 2 packs of hair and even when it is fresh and blown out after a few hours it would chunk up.

Plus you have to look @ her mom and her girls hair. It appears that good hair runs on BOTH sides of the family...

I'd be SHOCKED to find out if she had a few wefts in there. I wouldn't be disappointed though.

55. As a white woman who has always hated her hair, I read your post with interest.
I have scant knowledge about what goes on with black women's hair care and your post helped me understand it better. However, I have long thought that if I were a black woman I would definitely have a 'fro. It seems so easy and so natural. I absolutely HATE torturing my hair with blow drying heat and the sticky stuff to make it "piece-y." I have wavy hair; not straight (which I could deal with) or curly (I would have the white version of a 'fro)but just stupid waves that never look good on their own. I am certainly not trendy as I am in my late 60s.

So I wonder why anyone puts up with all the torment, both physically to one's hair and psychologically, to achieve a certain "look"? Why can't Michelle just have a hair do that is just naturally hers? I would love her with any hairstyle she chose. I love her for the other aspects of her style and for her intellect and parenting skills and leadership abilities.

58. your hair sounds like mine
What changed my life: a few drops of jojoba oil rubbed between my hands and then through my hair after a shampoo, then a few squirts of Paul Mitchell's Super Skinny Serum (same application), then blow dry or air dry (it sounds like you would prefer to air dry), then if necessary a few drops of Biosilk serum (super cheap at Costco) (it can be applied to either wet or dry hair, so it's great to settle things down on bad-hair days), then straighten/curl with a T3 curling iron (straightening from the crown and then turning the ends under), then finish with just a drop or two of Paul Mitchell's Gloss Drops. Don't use too much of the Biosilk or Gloss Drops because they can make your hair look oily.

I had big huge frizzy wavy hair for most of my life and hated it... I also hated to spend money on hair products that weren't likely to work. This is a very affordable system. (P.S. I also use Dove or Pantene conditioners, which my stylist says are bad because they leave a coating on hair. She says more expensive brands don't do that, but maybe I need the coating, because my hair is finally smooth and soft with them and with the other products I suggested. I think it's mainly the other products that have made the difference, though.) I can finally grow my hair long and smooth instead of out to the sides and bristly.

The T3 curling iron is pretty spendy--maybe a cheaper one would be fine, I don't know. I got it on eBay for about $70 but if you want a guarantee I think you can get it at Sephora and return it if you're not happy.

61. Oh god, the last thing I would put on my hair is a curling iron!
Sorry, you lost me there.

Good lord, your regimen sounds too awful for me. Sorry, I just want wash and wear hair. I don'tmind a little bit of glop worked in before or after I dry it but that's it. I stopped highlighting my hair in 2006 and I stopped coloring the roots in 2007. I now have a "halo" around my face of gray hair and dark brown hair in the back. I love this new color! So now I need a fresh hair style without all the torture...

So which was it? Did the first lady abandon her signature, elegant bob cut? On Wednesday, the Office of the First Lady broke the news with the American public:

Nope, it wasn't a haircut. She just pinned it up

37. In the summer when sistahs sweat it makes the hair nappy in the back.
So pinning it saves time and wear and tear on the hair.
