GUN, PROPERTY CONDITION FUEL ILL WILL
Elizabeth Edwards afraid of neighbor
She has never met `rabid Republican,' but wouldn't be nice
MIKE BAKER
Associated Press

Edwards, the wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, particularly recalls the time neighbor Monty Johnson brought out a gun while chasing workers investigating a right of way near his property. The Edwards family has yet to meet Johnson in person.

"I wouldn't be nice to him, anyway," Edwards said in an interview. "I don't want my kids anywhere near some guy who, when he doesn't like somebody, the first thing he does is pull a gun out. It scares the business out of me."

But Johnson defended the occasion he brandished a gun, saying those on his land didn't have the proper approval.

"I use the gun for protection, and I considered that an appropriate time," Johnson said. "Sometimes you have to take drastic measures."

Would you want to meet this guy?

1. Scary.
People act ignorant and dangerous when it comes to their property.

He's just the kind they rally behind.

3. Can't blame him. Those surveyors may have been concealing a streetsweeper in their
transit tripods. Ya never know.

4. Was this piece written to make the Edwards look bad?
Complete backfire, if it is.

5. I don't think it enhances her image at all and I did see it as a hit piece.
I began another discussion thread here a while ago asking if this even sounds like Elizabeth. To me, it rings false.

7. Kind of scary
that Edwards can't even deal with a hostile neighbor -- How will he deal with the hostile world Jr and his cabal will leave behind? Not to mention the hostile radical regressives in our own government? It would have been an excellent test of his diplomatic skills if he'd been able to make peace with the guy, but instead the guys moving and they won't have to deal with him at all.

8. Exactly,
First off, I feel there is something else to this story. There is something missing. Has this guy ever threatened the Edwards? And where did she hear about him threatening people at gunpoint? Is this verified. And if I had the money they have, I would have definitely done a check of the neighborhood before putting up a 5 million dollar home. I would love to see an interview done with this "crazy neighbor".

9. I agree something's missing.
And would a woman savvy about politics call someone a rabid, rabid Republican?
