Comment on Huff post: What if the police dept. was like private health insurance?
"Last night someone broke into my house. I called the police from the bedroom. The dispatcher, whose name sounded like Mambi or Bambi, was hard to understand. She asked what crime insurance I had. When I told her she said my deductible was $3,000 and to submit a claim if the amount taken exceeded that. I told her I was in danger of being attacked and maybe killed and she said "do you want to be transferred to the department for assaults and homicides?"

She reminded me that there was a $300 co-pay if the police were called out.

Desperate, I ran to my neighbor but I saw through his window he was bound and gagged. It look like a house invasion or kidnapping. I knew he had no crime insurance so I didn"t bother calling the police again.

After the burglar left, I was so stressed out I called my doctor who came around immediately, sirens blazing and lights flashing.

Later in the week I got a letter from my insurance company. They say my mother"s house was burgled when I was living there as a child so they were cancelling my crime insurance retrospectively but keeping the premiums.

Thank goodness we don't handle healthcare the way we do crime! What a nightmare that would be!"
