Cheney demanded US military be used in Buffalo,NY to arrest people.
Just reported as breaking news on Rachel Maddow Show. He wanted to use the military to arrest citizens on US soil to test the Constitution, to prove it was no longer relevant.

NOW can we arrest this bastard?

Bushco suspending Posse Comitatus weren't so crazy after all, huh?

8. I was one of those crazy people!
 I was really worried that Bush Co would declare Martial Law and try to cancel the elections. Everything was in place to accomplish that little coup, except I couldn't bring myself to believe the military would cooperate.
Those 8 years were some of the darkest, most dangerous times we've
faced in this country, at least in my lifetime, and I'm 63.

suspicious about is proving to be true. And so much we still don't know. There was no such thing as unjustified paranoia during the Bushco years.

Bush-Era Debate: Using G.I.’s in U.S.

By MARK MAZZETTI and DAVID JOHNSTON
Published: July 24, 2009

WASHINGTON — Top Bush administration officials in 2002 debated testing the Constitution by sending American troops into the suburbs of Buffalo to arrest a group of men suspected of plotting with Al Qaeda, according to former administration officials.

Some of the advisers to President George W. Bush, including Vice President Dick Cheney, argued that a president had the power to use the military on domestic soil to sweep up the terrorism suspects, who came to be known as the Lackawanna Six, and declare them enemy combatants. Mr. Bush ultimately decided against the proposal to use military force.

A decision to dispatch troops into the streets to make arrests would be nearly unprecedented in American history, as both the Constitution and subsequent laws restrict the military from being used to conduct domestic raids and seize property.

The Fourth Amendment bans “unreasonable” searches and seizures without probable cause. And the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 generally prohibits the military from acting in a law enforcement capacity.

military to sweep up foreign residents, and certainly even Americans, and detain them indefinitely with no recourse to the law, even if without real evidence that they had commited a crime--or even that they intended to:
Former officials said the 2002 debate arose partly from Justice Department concerns that there might not be enough evidence to arrest and successfully prosecute the suspects in Lackawanna. Mr. Cheney, the officials said, had argued that the administration would need a lower threshold of evidence to declare them enemy combatants and keep them in military custody <emphasis added>.

14. He reminds me of a lot of other evil people.
They all have dead eyes, nothing in there, in terms of empathy. He reminds me of serial killers. It's a sporting event with them. Come to think of it, that's probably why he likes canned hunts, shooting lawyers, sending people off to die in illegal, immoral wars. It's all just a game.

Lots closer than I care to think, I fear.

I'm glad these things are coming out finally. Makes it worth all the grief we got here for being tin foil conspiracy theorists. It'll be interesting to see how many of the deniers show up now.

34. I'm having a major brain freeze at the moment,
but IIRC it had to do with Leon Panetta and the CIA and assination teams targeting Al Quada leaders, except that the explanation didn't make any sense, so it was probably a red herring. I'd be willing to bet this is more likely what it was about. Either this or something even worse.

Is Posse Comitatus Dead? US Troops on US Streets

In a barely noticed development, a US Army unit is now training for domestic operations under the control of US Army North, the Army service component of Northern Command. An initial news report in the Army Times newspaper last month noted that in addition to emergency response the force “may be called upon to help with civil unrest and crowd control.” The military has since claimed the force will not be used for civil unrest, but questions remain. We speak to Army Col. Michael Boatner, future operations division chief of USNORTHCOM, and Matthew Rothschild, editor of The Progressive magazine.
