I used to get customer service calls from Barrow in December , and they would ask "Where are you located?" and I would answer, "You don't want to know."

15. My godson went thru a hot summer in Afghanistan last year.
He was stationed in the Korengal Valley, up in the mountains in NE Afghanistan near the border with Pakistan. He is home and safe now, but he re-upped for another 6 years so who knows if he will go back or not.

Hope your nephew makes it home safe too.

18. Oh.... that's a bad area!
Mine is in the "middle north" and maybe safer, although the Taliban is becoming more active as the marines are chasing them out of the south. He's having a great time -- he loves the towns people he's working with and is happily buying his wife gifts from the local merchants. And he raves about the melons!

But... I want him safely home with his sweet wife and little girl.

12. Wish you could be in my flat
It is a basement apartment, but the front (south facing) is open to a greenhouse. The building is heated geothermally, and all we have to do to get it cooler is to open the doors to the storage room, bath, and bedroom, which are entirely underground and without windows. Refreshingly cool. And I believe my husband has a six pack of some good German beer in the fridge.

17. It's 70-F here with a stiff breeze out of the NW.
But my hot shower on the lookout catwalk an hour ago was 109-F! Damn that felt good!

I can hang this in a number of different places on the catwalk. With the 20 mph wind blocked, a 109-degree shower is perfect.

45. And tomorrow too.
It's been a miserable summer. We've had so much humidity but at my house in Glendale barely any rain. The total accumulation here has been less than a quarter of an inch! I can deal with the heat and humidity when we get the much needed rain to go with it.
