Forget high crimes, felony, even treason... we are in a whole new category of criminality ...
by Larisa Alexandrovna

The Bush-Cheney gang has committed many a crime. Of this there is no doubt and no question. In some cases, their crimes have been seen by many as nothing short of treason. Making money off a fabricated war in which Americans have been killed, for example, would qualify. Outing a CIA officer, in yet another example, would qualify. There are many crimes, much evidence, and little justice, of this we are all aware. The word treason certainly applies to some of these crimes.

But what word can be used to describe a crime in which the entire planet is put at risk, the entire human race is endangered? What do you call a group of people who are so corrupt that they are willing to risk the entire planet and everything on it for short-term profit? Read the below and tell me what to call this level of criminality:

"Graphic images that reveal the devastating impact of global warming in the Arctic have been released by the US military. The photographs, taken by spy satellites over the past decade, confirm that in recent years vast areas in high latitudes have lost their ice cover in summer months.

The pictures, kept secret by Washington during the presidency of George W Bush, were declassified by the White House last week. President Barack Obama is currently trying to galvanise Congress and the American public to take action to halt catastrophic climate change caused by rising levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere."

So, instead of using the last 8 years to try to find a way to address this crisis and, if necessary, make emergency plans for the people they took an oath to protect, the Bush administration not only wasted our resources on a fabricated war, but hid the evidence that the planet is in a serious crisis. Moreover, Cheney and his secret energy meetings were focused on Iraq, not on saving Americans from a disaster of horrific magnitude. There is more:

"Even before her warning, scientists were saying that America, the world's scientific superpower, was virtually blinding itself to climate change by cutting funds to the environmental satellite programmes run by the Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and Nasa. A report by the National Academy of Sciences this year warned that the environmental satellite network was at risk of collapse.

In February, a Nasa satellite carrying instruments to produce the first map of the Earth's carbon emissions crashed near Antarctica only three minutes after lift-off.

The satellite would have measured carbon emissions at 100,000 points around the planet every day, providing a wealth of data compared to the 100 or so fixed towers currently in operation in a land-based network."

Plenty of money for faith-based hocus pocus initiatives, but no money to literally save the world? Nice. But it is not just Bush-Cheney and their cabal who are a threat to the world. It is also the energy executives, their lobbyists, and the politicians they own who have been destroying this nation and the world for years. This is beyond treason. There is no word I can think of that would adequately convey the nature of this crime.

What I find incredibly interesting is the nature of extreme greed. While it is unlikely that a massive climate disaster will occur during the life-time of these criminals, their children and grandchildren will not be so lucky. Bush, Cheney, and most of their gang will likely be gone before the planet becomes a wasteland. But what of Jenna, Barbara, Lizzie, etc.? What about Lizzie's little kids? Is grandpa Cheney so greedy that he is willing to leave them to this fate? Apparently.

4. In a word: IMMORAL - it is a crime against ALL OF HUMANITY.
Edited on Sun Jul-26-09 08:20 PM by Triana
This is the REAL IMMORALITY that strawman issues like gay marriage, abortion, and other supposedly "immoral" things are meant to distract from.

Also, epidemic and abject POVERTY in this country - that's another MORAL ISSUE (a REAL one) that the strawman arguments about gay marriage, abortion, etc. are meant to distract from - that way, NO ONE does anything about climate change, poverty, or any of the other REAL moral issues facing the US and the World today. The corprats/gov't distract from them, instead fingering other more "shiny" "moral" issues that will divert the attention of the masses from wanting or expecting anything done about REAL ones.

They destroy or hide the facts, never mention them, tell us to "go shopping" like good little consumers and keep watching teevee - to keep ourselves anesthetized in propaganda so we never see the REAL MORAL ISSUES of our time coming straight at us like freight trains - and when they hit - it'll be too late.

It's what they do. It's a crime against ALL OF HUMANITY. It's a crime of IMMORALITY.

14. Huh? Wah, what? Up too late? Hmm.... No. Wrong contributor.
The Bush admin did not follow the Constitution, so calling the Constitution a contributor to our upcoming ecological problems is ludicrous.

Had Bush followed it, providing for the common defense involves a defense against nature as well. Instead they opted to only work on the defense portion that makes war money for profiteers.

22. It's "human nature" - always been.
Although it's "human nature" (as usual), (almost) always has been "human nature" (since the beginning of known history), it's now time (long overdue) for the current generations to make sure it won't "always will be" human nature (a collective suicidal behavior led by the few criminal robber barons for egoistic motives).

Gotta start by transparency in all electoral campaigns' funding... everywhere (not only here).

18. Part of the problem is that many of these folks are so immersed in high-tech industry
that they think humans can solve any problem with a new, improved machine or product.

Rest assured that the barons of industry look at this as just another opportunity for expanding their contracts via emergency housing for those who are forced to move inland, demolishing the cities that are crumbling due to rising seas and building new ones to replace them, relocating industrial facilities to regions that are not immediately adversely affected.

Plus, think of all the cheap labor when hundreds of millions of people are forced to flee their homes and look elsewhere for sustanance and employment.

And then there are the BILLIONS to be made arming and equipping the police and troops to stop the rampaging hordes who have lost all hope and all options for survival.

I have a feeling that some of the fat cats will be living pretty high on the hog right up to the bitter end.

Or does the U.S. just let all criminals go? I'm extremely confused by the supposed outrage over these crimes while at the same time, people still insist that jailing the repub criminals for life is a waste of time.

If the repubs committed world-wide genocide, which they have, it will never be forgotten so how can anyone insist that it is forgotten?

Citing the U.S.'s so called "evidence" that allegedly proved Saddam had was seeking or making WMDs or already had WMDs. This so called evidence also was alleged to prove a link between Saddam and Bin Laden and Al Qaeda. And that Saddam was linked to 9-11.

Bushco used agents from within the CIA to fabricate one gigantic fucking whopper of a story and call it "evidence".When he ordered the CIA to engage in such activity, he committed a high crime.

Bushco committed war crimes the moment we invaded Iraq. Moving into a whole new class of crimes and putting their criminality on the INT'L stage. They violated the laws of the Geneva convention.

We are bound through treaty to those laws.

Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rove, Rummy, Wolfawitz(sp), Gonzalez, and many others should be behind bars until the day they die in prison.
