Big spenders tend to marry big savers, researchers find
NEW YORK (Reuters Life!) – Frustrated by your spouse's spending habits?

It might be why you married them, according to a working paper titled "Fatal (Fiscal) Attraction" by professors of the Wharton School of Finance and Northwestern University.

"Surveys of married adults suggest that opposites attract when it comes to emotional reactions toward spending," Wharton's Scott Rick and Deborah Small and Northwestern's Eli Finkel said in the paper.

They found that people who generally spend less than they would ideally like to spend, and those who spend more than they would like to tend to marry each other.

4. Unfortunately. I'm cheap as hell. My wife, while she loves a good bargain,
loves to get MANY good bargains. She can't save a dime. We spend everything, it seems.

5. My ex and I were both tightwads
so we never fought about money and that wasn't what broke us up.

Most of the couples we knew were exactly as the article describes.

6. my husband spends like a drunken sailor AT THE GROCERY STORE
and he loves to find cheap houses (thousands of dollars) now that we are in Detroit and purchase those....I on the other hand ONLY purchase what I need..like a hamburger press for $4.95 or 5 years worth of garbage bags (480)for $45.00 because my husband thinks garbage bags are too expensive to purchase at the local store..and when we run out he just dumps the trash and reuses the bag!!!! NO LONGER!!! Bags just arrived yesterday. AND HE YELLS AT ME FOR SPENDING MONEY!!!

7. Self fulfilling
The way the comparison is described, it is sort of self fulfilling. Someone will always tend to be a "tighter wad" than the other. I'm the "big spender" in my relationship, only because I'll grease the nickle before squeezing it, and she'll put super glue on it. Around anyone else I know, I'm the tight wad.
