Who the hell is Sharpton to demand apologies?

The last I heard, Sharpton still has a whole heap to issue himself to the people he accused of raping Tawana Brawley.

What Imus did was wrong and requires some sort of punishment but Sharpton is the wrong man to be requiring that Imus apologize.

Sharpton was not alone in his defense of Tawana Brawley. If you remember correctly it was not Sharpton that made the accusations but Brawley herself and Sharpton along with many leaders in the black community came to her defense as she was being put through the wringer. I still feel there was something to the claims but she had endured enough.

She was partying with her boyfriend and needed an alibi. So it was okay that Sharpton came to the defense of a lying, druggie teenager without investigating her credibility and creating a national race-baiting issue? And yes, I do feel the same about Bill Cosby for the same reason, but he's not going around demanding apologies for race-based remarks.

As someone who lives in the city Tawanna trashed, the birthplace of Geraldine Ferraro, I take offense that he became a national figure based on that exercise in utter deceit and race-baiting. Sadly, he is yet another figure that has staked an empty claim in representing a segment of our population for his own gain. He did not put himself on that pedestal, so why should he apologize? It his blind followers, the incompetent press and the ignorant public who continue to prop up his undeserved position. It sure IS ironic, and thus makes it the perfect time to bring the subject again. The silence on this historic debacle continues to scar the communities that were affected.

If I remember correctly, Sharpton took a massive beating in the NYC press for his involvement in the Brawley fiasco, as did Alton Maddox and C. Vernon Mason. Maddox, IIRC, stopped practicing law as a result.

Sharp had to pony up $345K to Steven Pagones for character assassination.

To post an OP about Sharpton smacks, to me, as an attempt to divert discussion from the actual issue to that of a "red herring".
