Modern American Conservatives Suffer From "Terminal Uniqueness"

After years and years of debate with right wingers I know and online, one inescapable fact is now certain in my mind. Almost all of those folks that count themselves as conservatives after the GW Bush nightmare suffer from "terminal uniqueness."

For example, these people believe that they and their families will NEVER lose their health insurance. They believe that they will never have an insurance company deny THEIR health claim simply to fatten the bottom line at the company.

These folks have an unwavering belief that they will NEVER be arrested in their own living rooms for disorderly conduct and hauled off to jail.

They believe that they will always have their day in court regardless of the reason they are arrested by the government.

They believe that their healthcare is not now being rationed because they have never been the victim of a healthcare policy claim rescission.

The list goes on and on.

Many NEW Democrats are simply conservatives that have had their "terminal uniqueness" bubble burst. The fact is that these people are not unique. Years of blindly accepting and supporting the idiocy and lies of men like Limbaugh many times gets washed away ONLY when these injustices become personal.
