10/08-- this was posted on his website:

Sportsmen for McCain and Palin
Sportsmen for McCain are anglers, hunters, and conservationists, and we invite you to join our ranks to elect Senator John McCain as the 44th President of the United States. With the election rapidly approaching we must work together in order to unite our fellow sportsmen in support of John McCain. The decision for sportsmen is clear, but we must ensure that our friends understand why John McCain will protect our Second Amendment rights. John McCain understands that hunters and anglers are the first conservationists and without them, conservation as we know it will cease to exist. John McCain recognizes the importance of recruiting the next generation of hunters and anglers as well as maintaining those currently in our ranks. John McCain believes in multiple uses of public lands and knows that the revenue generated by the licenses and gear that we purchase is the life blood of state wildlife agencies. John McCain is the only choice for Sportsmen. John McCain is an angler; he knows the difference between spinning gear and a fly rod. John McCain knows firearms; he was trained with them throughout his years of service in the military. John McCain is the clear choice for Sportsmen in November and it is our responsibility to spread that message.

I was gonna buy some of his music, but now I have changed my mind. Oh yeah, he has been on "Fox and Friends"............no thanks Hank!

Personally, I have always refused to believe that "Jr." is really the biological son of Hank Sr.
Looks nothing like Sr., and is such a total asshole. Hank Williams (the REAL Hank Williams) may have been an alcoholic, but he had soul, he had heart, and he had the intelligence and sensibility of a true poet.

Jr. is nothing but a trashy loudmouth jerk.

7. scarletwoman, you speak a smooth truth onto the jagged landscape
of the modern world.

Nice post. Thank you.

I have no idea about the genetic lineage, but you are absolutely correct about the spiritual lineage!

9. Why, thank you, sir! I was raised on the music of the REAL Hank Williams.
I still know many 78s' worth of his songs by heart (I was listening to Hank Williams before 33-1/3 albums were invented). His beautiful soulful voice is indelibly imprinted on my brain. My 82-year old dad and I still sing old Hank Williams songs in harmony at family gatherings. :)

12. It sounds to me like you and your Dad know good stuff when you hear it.
Harmony, too! And in this day and age! I love it.

There is a resonant authenticity to Hank Williams, made more alluring because Hank Jr. visibly lacks it.

Emmylou Harris, a very long-time favorite, did "Rollin' and Ramblin'" on her BRAND NEW DANCE album:

- - -
"Rollin' and Ramblin'"

Folks in Nashville slammed the door
Said we don't want you anymore
Find your own way down the road
Pack your fiddle and your guitar
Take a train or take a car
Find someone else to keep you from the cold

Rollin' and ramblin'
Women loved him half to death
He sang with whiskey on his breath
His heart broke like a child's
Rollin' and ramblin'
The sun has set out on the trail
The hobo's drifted up the rail
He's taken his last ride

Oh, he always sang the blues
Like it was all he ever knew
He didn't sing at all that night
He was pale and as he dozed
He didn't know his time had closed
Slumped in the back seat to the right

Rollin' and ramblin'
Women loved him half to death
He sang with whiskey on his breath
His heart broke like a child's
Rollin' and ramblin'
The sun has set out on the trail
The hobo's drifted up the rail
He's taken his last ride

So they send him on night train South
Through the cities and the rural routes
Just one more place to go
Ah, the whistle sang the bluest note
Like it came from his own throat
Moanin' sad and cryin' low

Rollin' and ramblin'
Women loved him half to death
He sang with whiskey on his breath
His heart broke like a child's
Rollin' and ramblin'

The sun has set out on the trail
The hobo's drifted up the rail
He's taken his last ride

Rollin' and ramblin'
The sun has set out on the trail
The hobo's drifted up the rail
He's taken his last ride

It's a fine tribute to a the sort of guy you accurately describe in your posts in this thread.

Truly enjoyed reading about Mr. Williams from someone who obviously gets it. Thanks.

19. I don't know if he looked like his papa before his mountain climbing accident
but they had to totally reconstruct his face from scratch when he almost died then. Everyone who knew him said this is a different face mostly.

Other than that, he is a complete and total asshole, both in how he treats people and in his political views. I used to listen to some of his songs too until I listened to his opinions and found them so offensive that I won't give another dime to buy a song or waste my brain listening to any tunes of his. Dickhead.

13. Hank Sr. lived during the Great Depression but by the time jr was
born he could afford to take care of his family and even indulge them. Hank jr. is one of those son's of the great who are ruined by the life they got without any real work.

14. Agree. Hank's legend includes a hefty bout of dues-paying, whereas
Jr. seems like somebody who blew into town a couple weeks ago and is squatting on the North 40, drinking beer from the owners' fridge.

Hank Sr. is good history.

6. All the substances he ingested smoothed out the wrinkles in his brain
He's a fuckin loser. If his name was Hank Jones Jr. you would never have heard of him.

Even all that sportsmen for McCain shit doesn't make sense. If it was up to McCain and his ilk, all the public lands so prized by sportsmen would be turned over to private interests and placed off limits to hunters. So your 2nd amendment rights would be worthless without anyplace to exercise them.

Try Hank Williams III - lot netter musician w/o so much of the redneck baggage.

Or better yet - try this guy:

11. Yes, I am a fan of Hank, Jr.
I have seen him in concert more times than I can count - love his music! But, when he endorsed Dubya, I did a double-take! I could not believe he would be so stupid! But, he is enmeshed with the NRA, and we all know what that means - neocon idiots!
