Why the public option must fail.
If I am stating the obvious excuse me-virus hit our computer at home last week. Just wanted to check in via the library (thank you "government" :hi: :patriot: )

-----

The reason the "public option" HAS to be killed are three fold

1. The public option will follow Medicaid, Medicare, the VA, and Social Security as systems that work* and that are very popular.

2. The extension of "discussion" really is only to bilk more money out of the the private insurers by all parties including the lobbyists on K Street (read "The Wrecking Crew" by Thomas Frank-I can't highly enough recommend it) and from the hedgefunds that are the majority stock holders in the private health insurance companies.

3. The Republicans have to stop this (see #1.) because their false case is entirely built on the premise that "government doesn't work" and "less government in business, more business in government" (see #2.). Their supposed national defense and war abilities have blowup in our faces. Their supposed economic model has blownup in our faces. Their supposed "fiscal discipline" has blownup in our faces (see Frank's book-deficits are part of the plan). They have nothing left.

The public option-ANY PUBLIC OPTION- will work and be very popular both with the general public and with business owners.

They have to stop it. They have no other choice.

* by "work" I mean the function of them, WHAT they do. There are certainly financial concerns with these programs but that is mostly because they are underfunded-they are supposed to be to show that they don't "work". The entire discussion on TV is about the money side of health care reform which is no surprise because if the main discussion was about the function and need for health care reform there would be no discussion.
