So who else had their local car dealership owners on television this morning whining
about the clunker program being cut off and how much on advertising they had spent on it and how it wasn't fair to them.

And yes I know their whining has worked, the federal government is going to spend more money on it and continue to encourage people to take on new debt during the worst recession in almost a century.

5. What I want to know is what happens to the cars that get traded in.
I bet the dealers will sell them to someone else so they will end up back on the road. So the whole reason for this program is bullshit to begin with. Nothing but pure profit for dealerships. 1) Gas-guzzling cars will end up back on the road, thus not really reducing carbon emissions. They may be sold to Mexico or somewhere but they will be back on the road. 2) The dealers love this because they are not laying out any cash in the form of rebates or if they are, they are getting it back from the government.

The whole thing is a complete boondoggle and should end NOW.
