Laura Bush gives Michelle Obama a thumbs-up
i wonder if Laura voted for Obama. i would bet that Jenna did. Laura Bush was also very happy with the Sotomayor pick for the SC. personally i think she is glad that Sarah Palin is not VP. and i don't think her and Cindy really like each other.

this isn't that important but i know she is popular and i'm sure it makes the wingnuts who attack Michelle, Sotomayor, Obama etc crazy when they see this.

<Michelle Obama's performance as first lady is getting high marks from her predecessor Laura Bush.

Speaking to The Associated Press after a change-of-command ceremony for the USS Texas submarine at the Naval submarine base, Bush said Friday she's watched the current first lady from afar and is impressed.

“I think she's doing a terrific job,” she said. “It's like a club; very few people have been in that position. I sympathize with her, and I also know what it's like.”>

6. Just curious, why the vitriol?
Is it just who her husband happens to be? Or perhaps she's made some statements that were objectionable? If so, I haven't heard any myself (she seems to have been pretty quiet and non-offensive all these years in the spotlight).

17. If anything, Mrs. Bush said (12/01) how great life was for her that year.
A lot of people had a fit because she acted like 9/11 never happened.

Otherwise I don't recall anything of significance, and even one comment alone isn't enough. She's human too. And far more worthy of respect than her idiot hubby, or at least the congress that should have impeached him for sidestepping checks and balances to go into a war (Iraq) that was not tied - or was at least a low priority issue compared to Osama, you know - the guy he said didn't concern him and only after a precise 6 months of claiming the opposite... but then, congress never impeached Reagan (he was either lying about not remembering anything or was genuinely senile - in either case, in no position to remain President. Ethics or the ill-effect of old age... funny, he'd be against health care reform while getting a life-long free ride too. How would the freepers rationalize that...)

21. The poster doesn't care much for the current First Lady or so it seems...
Anything positive said about the current President or the First Lady seems to cause an outbreak of vitriol on the part of the poster regardless of who said it.

I think Laura would have been a much better president than her husband. At least we can be certain that she has read a book.

5. Laura's okay. Remember how she was put in a 'time out' chair for six months after saying
she wouldn't have voted for GWB had she not been married to him because she was raised a Democrat.

9. I was holding my breath
waiting for her approval.
:sarcasm:

She has no idea what it is like for Michelle Obama. She was never subjected to the type of dehumanization that Michelle has been subject to.

11. Really, I remember the Pickles shit and the drapes wearing comments
and the other various items that were tossed about. No, she hasn't had to deal with the racists.. but she is married to the least popular president ever.. and has been scrutinized. Not on the same level because she's a white privelleged lady, but she has been in the public aim.

16. So being criticized
Edited on Sat Aug-01-09 12:30 PM by my2sense
for clothing choices and being married to an idiot equates to being called a unpatriotic, gorilla, baby mama, angry, a big dude, militant...the list goes on. This is apples and oranges. I agree she has been criticized - but not on this level.

25. Same here. I always found her classy. I don't know how she
ended up married to the shrub. I believe that's the real reason why people here hate her so much.

14. Thereby showing how stunningly shallow she is
Laura Bush thinks all women are OK, no matter how much shit they might spew. She was also quite concerned about the women under the Taliban and therefore supported her husband's war for that reason. But she never puts her money where her mouth is though. The words vapid, clueless, superficial, unconcerned, and uninterested come to mind.

18. I'm guessin if mojo ever becomes legal in Texas, a few people will fire up doobies with Laura
and hear an earful. Small town girl and former librarian that she was, she usually didn't seem to be enjoying the DC fishbowl. And I felt really bad for her, at the beginning of the Afghan war when she started gushing about how the US invasion would improve things for women there, because it showed clearly she had almost no idea about how the rightwing Administration would treat the feminist aspirations of the President's wife.

19. Laura used to be a Democrat before she married Idiot Boy
It would not surprise me if she has secretly continued voting Democratic, as well. She always struck me as rather vapid, but looking back, I cannot help but believe she was actually "medicated". One would have to be to survive being a member of that putrid family.
