Alabama tastes the putrid fruit of 'conservative' Republicon economics
Edited on Sat Aug-01-09 06:42 AM by SpiralHawk
The inevitable FAIL of Republiconomics (so-called conservativism - 'greed is good' 'government is EVIL socialism,' 'Starve the Beast') is slamming home hard in Alabama -- a state that just luvs them their Republicon 'geniuses.' Karma can be kick-ass wicked.

From today's NYT
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/01/us/01alabama.html?_r=1&th&emc=th

"In every part of Jefferson County — Alabama’s most populous county and its main economic engine — government managers have been scrambling to prepare for Saturday, when two-thirds of county employees eligible for layoffs — up to 1,400 — will be lost in an effort to stave off financial ruin.

“Outside of the city of Detroit,” said Robert A. Kurrter, a managing director with Moody’s Investors Service, “it’s fair to say we haven’t seen any place in America with the severity of problems that they’re experiencing in Jefferson County.” Moody’s rates Jefferson County’s credit lower than any other municipality in the country."

Thanks a pantload, Republicon 'conservatives,' for tossing America's economy, integrity, and honor in the craphole with your greed, corruption, fear, and incompetence. Sheesh.

3. I assume that Jefferson County votes solidly republican.
It is amazing to watch ignorant, uneducated citizens consistently vote directly against their own economic interests and those of their families. It's a form of unwitting suicide by conservatism. With the accent on "unwitting".

Pathetic fools.

4. Actually went for Obama,
"Although Alabama as a whole voted for John McCain by double digits, Jefferson County voted for Democrat Barack Obama. He won 52% of the vote in Jefferson County and 166,121 votes. John McCain won 47% of the vote and 149,921 votes."

"The racial makeup of the county was 58.10% White, 39.36% Black or African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.90% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.59% from other races, and 0.80% from two or more races."

5. I would guess because of it's Democratic leaning, the State gives them less of the pie.
I know how Repubican cronyism works. The State is governed by a Republican Administration, which is responsible for dividing up State revenues county by county..You can bet the highly Republican counties are not hurting for revenue..

6. You may be right. The earlier poster seemed to be blaming the victim
calling residents of the county "ignorant, uneducated citizens" who "consistently vote directly against their own economic interests and those of their families". Turns out that is not the case. They may instead be a Democratic country that is being squeezed by a Republican state government.

7. I lived in Bama and loved the place, but
...the state is infested with so-called 'conservative' Republicons. I don't so much blame the folks of the county, or even the state, but everyone who gulped down the codswallop the Republicon's spout, and the way they in general have trashed the whole of the USA economy, integrity and honor. Jefferson County is just the latest victim of 'Starve the Beast' Republiconomics, and by no stretch the last.

8. Dracula -- I mean Karl Rove -- lives!
That is the Karl Rove - era GOP technique: enrich the donors, pander to the superstitions and resentments of those who vote "right", and then squeeze the rest to the benefit of the big donors. Ensure that people who vote "wrong" get taxation without service but impotent representation.

Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Ohio, Indiana, Iowa, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, and NE-02 caught on in 2008. Such demonstrates how Rogue politics works to create trust among Americans.

If Obama does what I think he can, there will be more defections from Rogue-era politics in 2012.

Next!
