Voices From Above Silence a Cable TV Feud (Must read for Keith Olbermann fans!)
I think this is corporate PR bullshit. Why? Read the last snippet...
_________________________________

For years Keith Olbermann of MSNBC had savaged his prime-time nemesis Bill O’Reilly of the Fox News Channel and accused Fox of journalistic malpractice almost nightly. Mr. O’Reilly in turn criticized Mr. Olbermann’s bosses and led an exceptional campaign against General Electric, the parent company of MSNBC.

It was perhaps the fiercest media feud of the decade and by this year, their bosses had had enough. But it took a fellow television personality with a neutral perspective to help bring it to at least a temporary end.

At an off-the-record summit meeting for chief executives sponsored by Microsoft in mid-May, the PBS interviewer Charlie Rose asked Jeffrey Immelt, chairman of G.E., and his counterpart at the News Corporation, Rupert Murdoch, about the feud.

snip...

Mr. Olbermann, who is on vacation, said by e-mail message, “I am party to no deal,” adding that he would not have been included in any conversations between G.E. and the News Corporation. Fox News said it would not comment.

1. So Olbermann Started On Rushbo...
and Beck and widened his field. From what I see, KO isn't toned down in his exposing of Faux and hate radio. These days he really doesn't need to look for them, these oxygen thieves have gone so far over the edge the material writes itself.

If anything, this shows the waning influence of O'Reilly. The other day someone commented on how the real pissing matching isn't right vs. left but the various right wing shills. It became a screaming and pissing match...every host trying to stake their own "outrage" and ramping up the rhetoric and theatrics over the past 2 years...but not to win an argument or anything more than to outshout the other wingnuts on the airwaves. O'Reilly can't keep up...the game he helped create has passed him by. It is very noteworthy that you little little cooperation between the big "personalities". Rarely is a Rushbo seen on Faux or will you see O'Reilly and Hannity mix it up like Stewart & Colbert. It's all about ratings and ego...the ones who are the most "bent out of shape" get the attention. The others are jealous and always finding a way to create their own scene.

2. The whole deal was a face saving effort for O"Reilly and Fox
Olbermann had already stopped talking about O'Reilly after Billo's ignorant comments about the murder of the abortion doctor.

Basically he treated O'Reilly like a kid who'd been slapped upside the head for farting at the table. Which of course was an affront to O'Reilly's dignity.

So the Fox network suits were pressed into action to make it look like they were the ones who ended the "feud" when in reality KO more or less decided that even mentioning Billo's name was more or less beneath his contempt.

I believe your take is right on target. The story even made it look like GE had something to gain because O'Reilly would now STFU about their corporate mosadventures.

4. Yeah, I agree this story is bullshit. KO laid down his arms in disgust,
and now his boss is patting himself on the back, along with Fixed Noise, for making it stop. It's bogus.
