and want to distort that into Obama-care will kill off old people, let's be honest.

If things continue the way they are, and elderly don't have access to help writing Living Wills, the truth is much uglier about the Republican party. They don't care if the elderly don't have means to provide for themselves or work out legalities.

1. You can do a living will online free. I did.
I did mine when all the crap was going on with Terry Schivo and I didn't want to take the chance of having to go through that myself.

I watched the markup hearing when they were discussing mandating a living will for everybody who accepted gov't money...medicare, medicaid, etc. I think it's a good idea.

2. Living wills are a good idea
Edited on Sat Aug-01-09 09:15 AM by AllentownJake
My mother is a nurse and she told me a story about an 85 year old whose family demanded a pace maker despite the fact the guy was in the later stages of Alzheimer.

Families have a hard time letting people go. Its good for you to leave something for your family to know what they are supposed to do.

I'm pretty sure the man wouldn't want what his family requested for him. Don't know. I know I certainly would rather have a heart attack than forget all the people that are special in my life.

3. I've seen a number of older friends and relatives die in the past ten years
and it's made me resolve that I do NOT want any heroic measures taken, especially if I'm mentally unsound or physically deteriorated beyond any hope of recovery.

That's not "euthanasia." It's just common sense.

4. Some hospitals already are doing this
In Denver, I had surgery several years back and part of my pre-surgery paperwork was a pamphlet called 5 Wishes or something like that. Basically, it asks about advanced care directives should you become unable to make your own life care decisions while hospitalized.

Because I didn't have a will at the time, I completed the document and it's considered legal in CO and a copy is on file with the entire HCA hospital family.

Obviously the repugs have to dramatize and blow this whole thing out of proportion but anyone I know who's been in the HCA hospitals in the past 3-4 years has already been offered something like a living will.

7. Living wills are excellent. Obama should veto any health care bill that doesn't include mandatory
living wills.

help us if they ever find one. W as was a Psychotic Narcissist, but not a leader, Reagan was their only leader but not Psychotic. Poppy41 as VP filled that role, Dubya 41's Cabinet was filled with his fathers Crony Psychopaths. Both Bush presidencies were just run by the Party Oligarchy, as it is being run now. they are all mentally ill.

9. It's because they know that in an honest debate, where citizens understand the issues....
...they'd have their asses handed to them EVERY SINGLE TIME. They have to lie, distort, cheat, and smear in order to just maintain the unfavorable image they have right now.
