George Stephanopoulos on Positive Economic News, with graphics and quotes (Obama's stimulus working)

"Each day this week brought those economic green shoots (Obama) has been counting on."

"Monday new home sales jumped to the biggest monthly increase in 8 years."

"Tuesday home prices, their first increase in three years."

"Wednesday a surprising step up in manufacturing activity."

"Thursday new jobless claims fall to their lowest levels since January."

"And Friday the clearest sign yet that the recession might be easing, second quarter growth falling much more slowly than expected."

"As the stock market capped off its best month since 2002."

2. Those graphics will be in Republican nightmares tonight.
Only America's failure brings visions of sugar plums.

8. I think he is a great reporter, he couldn't be an effective cheerleader though, if he was, w/o facts

5. Uhh, resorting to month over month change, is book cooking, not recovery.
This is spin folks, and I know some of you really want to believe it. Heck, I kind of NEED to believe it not to go nuts, but reality is very different.

I implore you to inform yourselves better, as while dissemination of this info may have political value, it has no bearing in the reality or totality of the situation we find ourselves in.

Please don't accept the mantle of a low information individual, just because an ideology demands it. And that is what you would be doing, wearing "50% informed" like a badge.

6. Some of the stats mentioned were the first gains in years. Makes it sound like a bottom has been
hit. You have to hit the bottom before you can start to go up.

Some people seem to be invested in having the economy contiue to fail and dismiss any signs which aren't doom and gloom.

7. No one here made a conclusion like that for you to attribute to us, I said stimulus is "working" not
Edited on Sun Aug-02-09 01:29 PM by usregimechange
that it has made everything perfect or completely turned us out of the recession. "Positive indicators" are not the same as total recovery. I worded this very carefully.

12. Mea Culpa re: conclusions, but let me share some other facts...

This is the one to watch..Dollars, private, stimubux, whatever, are being sucked out of the system. That is why there are no jobs coming. Capital destruction is still well underway, and until this stops there can be ZERO ripple effect.

While I sounded like I was referring to the OP and not the situation, I wasn't. I should have worded my response more generally, and failed.

My base point remains the same, though. I have many more metrics if you so desire.....

15. The health of the economy is going to make or break this President so we need to take credit for
what we have accomplished. Not too much right now but I thought a little was justified.
