Democrats Continue Anti-Bush Campaign
Ex-President's Record Used Against McDonnell

By Rosalind S. Helderman
Washington Post Staff Writer
Monday, August 3, 2009

Six months after George W. Bush, the man, quietly decamped to a Dallas suburb, George W. Bush, the political symbol, has come out of retirement.

Convinced that Americans still hold Bush responsible for the nation's economic woes -- and will show more patience with Democratic policies if reminded of their dissatisfaction with the eight years of his presidency -- Democratic candidates have stepped up efforts to link GOP opponents to Bush, repeating a strategy that helped them take over Congress, the White House and a number of state offices in the past two election cycles.

In Virginia, Democratic gubernatorial candidate R. Creigh Deeds has pounced on statements by Republican Robert F. McDonnell indicating that Bush's tax cuts were good for the economy in the years after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. The Bush name has littered Deeds's statements in the past week.

"Let's be clear: George Bush is responsible for our economic problems," Deeds said recently when asked an unrelated question about the record of the state's sitting Democratic governor. "We are more than happy to compare their records."

Likewise, in New Jersey, the only other state with a November gubernatorial election, Gov. Jon S. Corzine (D) has been running ads that tie his Republican opponent, Christopher Christie, to Bush. With President Obama at his side last month, Corzine warned against handing over New Jersey's statehouse to the "same people who failed so miserably in the White House."

1. it is not anti-Bush, it is pro-America...
And basically anything that is pro-America is anti-Republican.

I just wrote on another thread that
when I see "wash post" I think.."washed out facist rag that's totally irrelevant."

Maybe the Dems are doing this because it's true and the country has a memory hole thanks to the Whoremedia..hmmmm?

6. I didn't use that exact language when WaPo called me to subscribe...
but it was close. "Less credibility than the Enquirer" are the words I recall using, though I did say "rag" when asked for clarification.

The poor thing sounded apologetic, at best, when thanking me for taking the call.

10. Well, thank you, for
personally quitting them!

Sometimes it's hard to fathom their mindset for not reporting the facts but always resorting to manipulation and manufactoring the news.

2. The WaPo enabling the
out-of-sight-out-of-mind Republican Rehabilitation Brigade. Like the country isn't still suffering from the effects of eight years of Bush?

3. So basically...
In Virginia the republikkan praised DUMB-ya and the Democratic candidate responded.
I'm not sure how that's the Democrats launching an anti-Bush campaign

In New Jersey, Christie (who is a believer in many of Bush's policies) is being held to what he believes.

It's not an anti-bush campaign. Ir's reminding people that the republikkans running will govern their states the way dingus governed the country

12. Hey, quit that critical thinking/reading!
The Post has its narrative and they're sticking to it.

Yes, both those points occurred to me from the excerpt. How does a direct response to one's opponent's stupid talking point constitute a campaign against Bush? Just ridiculous.

7. I don't think the people are going to forget who actually caused this
mess. After all if I ask you who caused the Great Depression you will know even 80 years later. When are they going to realize that we are not as dumb as they think we are?

11. When are they going to change the name of the WAPO to the "National Sniveller?"
They are such a long way from the days of Watergate, it's not even funny.

13. People are still paying attention to that laughable publication?
I'd rather be reading about Palin's divorce in the Enquirer. "Bout the same same credibility.
