Republicans do not trust the "people".
After all, it was Ronald Reagan who said that the "government" was the problem, not the solution. Well, in our country, the "people" are the government. In our Preamble to our Constitution, we state very clearly that "We, the People of the United States," in order to form a more perfect union...do establish certain laws and principles for the benefit our people. They want to throw that out of the window. They believe the crap that Ronald Reagan put out thirty years ago.

By saying that they do not trust "government", they are saying they do not trust the people. They do not trust our Constitution. They do not trust our laws. Our nation was set up so that the people could decide, in their wisdom at the ballot box, what they thought was best for a "more perfect union". They spoke in the last election. Once again, the Republicans are ignoring the people. Because they do not trust the people.

2. Americans fail to comprehend that any govt's primary enemy is its own populace
That, and many apparently labor under the illusion that our's serves as a force for 'good' in the world first and foremost. It doesn't.

4. gopers implicitly trust corporations.
As long as that corporation doesn't run counter to their values like recognizing same-sex couples or donate heavily to Democratic candidates all is right in their world.
If it's good for those at the top it's good for the rest of us, or so the saying goes.

5. Absolutely exposed their hypocrisy, kentuck.
We the People are the ones Grover Norquist wants to drown (unless we're millionaires or "better," otherwise we're "useless eaters").
